The algebra of the subspace semigroup of M ( q )

Jan Okniński (2002)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

The semigroup S = S ( M ( q ) ) of subspaces of the algebra M ( q ) of 2 × 2 matrices over a finite field q is studied. The ideal structure of S, the regular -classes of S and the structure of the complex semigroup algebra ℂ[S] are described.

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

We study the notion of left ϕ -biflatness for Segal algebras and semigroup algebras. We show that the Segal algebra S ( G ) is left ϕ -biflat if and only if G is amenable. Also we characterize left ϕ -biflatness of semigroup algebra l 1 ( S ) in terms of biflatness, when S is a Clifford semigroup.

María Ángeles Moreno-Frías, José Carlos Rosales (2024)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Let S be a numerical semigroup. We say that h S is an isolated gap of S if { h - 1 , h + 1 } S . A numerical semigroup without isolated gaps is called a perfect numerical semigroup. Denote by m ( S ) the multiplicity of a numerical semigroup S . A covariety is a nonempty family 𝒞 of numerical semigroups that fulfills the following conditions: there exists the minimum of 𝒞 , the intersection of two elements of 𝒞 is again an element of 𝒞 , and S { m ( S ) } 𝒞 for all S 𝒞 such that S min ( 𝒞 ) . We prove that the set 𝒫 ( F ) = { S : S is a perfect numerical semigroup...

On the continuity of the elements of the Ellis semigroup and other properties

Salvador García-Ferreira, Yackelin Rodríguez-López, Carlos Uzcátegui (2021)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

We consider discrete dynamical systems whose phase spaces are compact metrizable countable spaces. In the first part of the article, we study some properties that guarantee the continuity of all functions of the corresponding Ellis semigroup. For instance, if every accumulation point of X is fixed, we give a necessary and sufficient condition on a point a X ' in order that all functions of the Ellis semigroup E ( X , f ) be continuous at the given point a . In the second part, we consider transitive...

On the K-theory of the C * -algebra generated by the left regular representation of an Ore semigroup

Joachim Cuntz, Siegfried Echterhoff, Xin Li (2015)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We compute the K -theory of C * -algebras generated by the left regular representation of left Ore semigroups satisfying certain regularity conditions. Our result describes the K -theory of these semigroup C * -algebras in terms of the K -theory for the reduced group C * -algebras of certain groups which are typically easier to handle. Then we apply our result to specific semigroups from algebraic number theory.

G-matrices, J -orthogonal matrices, and their sign patterns

Frank J. Hall, Miroslav Rozložník (2016)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

A real matrix A is a G-matrix if A is nonsingular and there exist nonsingular diagonal matrices D 1 and D 2 such that A - T = D 1 A D 2 , where A - T denotes the transpose of the inverse of A . Denote by J = diag ( ± 1 ) a diagonal (signature) matrix, each of whose diagonal entries is + 1 or - 1 . A nonsingular real matrix Q is called J -orthogonal if Q T J Q = J . Many connections are established between these matrices. In particular, a matrix A is a G-matrix if and only if A is diagonally (with positive diagonals) equivalent to a column permutation...

Linear preservers of rc-majorization on matrices

Mohammad Soleymani (2024)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Let A , B be n × m matrices. The concept of matrix majorization means the j th column of A is majorized by the j th column of B and this is done for all j by a doubly stochastic matrix D . We define rc-majorization that extended matrix majorization to columns and rows of matrices. Also, the linear preservers of rc-majorization will be characterized.

Circulant matrices with orthogonal rows and off-diagonal entries of absolute value 1

Communications in Mathematics

Similarity:

It is known that a real symmetric circulant matrix with diagonal entries d 0 , off-diagonal entries ± 1 and orthogonal rows exists only of order 2 d + 2 (and trivially of order 1 ) [Turek and Goyeneche 2019]. In this paper we consider a complex Hermitian analogy of those matrices. That is, we study the existence and construction of Hermitian circulant matrices having orthogonal rows, diagonal entries d 0 and any complex entries of absolute value 1 off the diagonal. As a particular case, we consider...

On semigroups with an infinitesimal operator

Jolanta Olko (2005)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Similarity:

Let F t : t 0 be an iteration semigroup of linear continuous set-valued functions. If the semigroup has an infinitesimal operator then it is a uniformly continuous semigroup majorized by an exponential semigroup. Moreover, for sufficiently small t every linear selection of F t is invertible and there exists an exponential semigroup f t : t 0 of linear continuous selections f t of F t .

A local Landau type inequality for semigroup orbits

Gerd Herzog, Peer Christian Kunstmann (2014)

Similarity:

Given a strongly continuous semigroup ( S ( t ) ) t 0 on a Banach space X with generator A and an element f ∈ D(A²) satisfying | | S ( t ) f | | e - ω t | | f | | and | | S ( t ) A ² f | | e - ω t | | A ² f | | for all t ≥ 0 and some ω > 0, we derive a Landau type inequality for ||Af|| in terms of ||f|| and ||A²f||. This inequality improves on the usual Landau inequality that holds in the case ω = 0.

Controllable and tolerable generalized eigenvectors of interval max-plus matrices

By max-plus algebra we mean the set of reals equipped with the operations a b = max { a , b } and a b = a + b for a , b . A vector x is said to be a generalized eigenvector of max-plus matrices A , B ( m , n ) if A x = λ B x for some λ . The investigation of properties of generalized eigenvectors is important for the applications. The values of vector or matrix inputs in practice are usually not exact numbers and they can be rather considered as values in some intervals. In this paper the properties of matrices and vectors with inexact (interval)...

Maps on upper triangular matrices preserving zero products

Roksana Słowik (2017)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Consider 𝒯 n ( F ) —the ring of all n × n upper triangular matrices defined over some field F . A map φ is called a zero product preserver on 𝒯 n ( F ) in both directions if for all x , y 𝒯 n ( F ) the condition x y = 0 is satisfied if and only if φ ( x ) φ ( y ) = 0 . In the present paper such maps are investigated. The full description of bijective zero product preservers is given. Namely, on the set of the matrices that are invertible, the map φ may act in any bijective way, whereas for the zero divisors and zero matrix one can write φ as a...

Analytic aspects of the circulant Hadamard conjecture

Annales mathématiques Blaise Pascal

Similarity:

We investigate the problem of counting the real or complex Hadamard matrices which are circulant, by using analytic methods. Our main observation is the fact that for | q 0 | = ... = | q N - 1 | = 1 the quantity Φ = i + k = j + l q i q k q j q l satisfies Φ N 2 , with equality if and only if q = ( q i ) is the eigenvalue vector of a rescaled circulant complex Hadamard matrix. This suggests three analytic problems, namely: (1) the brute-force minimization of Φ , (2) the study of the critical points of Φ , and (3) the computation of the moments of Φ . We explore here...
