Generalized E-algebras via λ-calculus I

Rüdiger Göbel, Saharon Shelah (2006)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

An R-algebra A is called an E(R)-algebra if the canonical homomorphism from A to the endomorphism algebra E n d R A of the R-module R A , taking any a ∈ A to the right multiplication a r E n d R A by a, is an isomorphism of algebras. In this case R A is called an E(R)-module. There is a proper class of examples constructed in [4]. E(R)-algebras arise naturally in various topics of algebra. So it is not surprising that they were investigated thoroughly in the last decades; see [3, 5, 7, 8, 10, 13, 14, 15, 18,...

Cartan-Eilenberg projective, injective and flat complexes

Xiaorui Zhai, Chunxia Zhang (2016)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Let R be an associative ring with identity and a class of R -modules. In this article: we first give a detailed treatment of Cartan-Eilenberg complexes and extend the basic properties of the class to the class CE ( ). Secondly, we study and give some equivalent characterizations of Cartan-Eilenberg projective, injective and flat complexes which are similar to projective, injective and flat modules, respectively. As applications, we characterize some classical rings in terms of these...

Bounds for quotients in rings of formal power series with growth constraints

Vincent Thilliez (2002)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

In rings Γ M of formal power series in several variables whose growth of coefficients is controlled by a suitable sequence M = ( M l ) l 0 (such as rings of Gevrey series), we find precise estimates for quotients F/Φ, where F and Φ are series in Γ M such that F is divisible by Φ in the usual ring of all power series. We give first a simple proof of the fact that F/Φ belongs also to Γ M , provided Γ M is stable under derivation. By a further development of the method, we obtain the main result of the paper,...

A subclass of strongly clean rings

Communications in Mathematics

Similarity:

In this paper, we introduce a subclass of strongly clean rings. Let R be a ring with identity, J be the Jacobson radical of R , and let J # denote the set of all elements of R which are nilpotent in R / J . An element a R is called provided that there exists an idempotent e R such that a e = e a and a - e or a + e is an element of J # . A ring R is said to be in case every element in R is very J # -clean. We prove that every very J # -clean ring is strongly π -rad clean and has stable range one. It is shown that for a...

The rings which are Boolean

Ivan Chajda, Filip Švrček (2011)

Discussiones Mathematicae - General Algebra and Applications

Similarity:

We study unitary rings of characteristic 2 satisfying identity x p = x for some natural number p. We characterize several infinite families of these rings which are Boolean, i.e., every element is idempotent. For example, it is in the case if p = 2 n - 2 or p = 2 n - 5 or p = 2 n + 1 for a suitable natural number n. Some other (more general) cases are solved for p expressed in the form 2 q + 2 m + 1 or 2 q + 2 m where q is a natural number and m 1 , 2 , . . . , 2 q - 1 .

Vortex collisions and energy-dissipation rates in the Ginzburg–Landau heat flow. Part I: Study of the perturbed Ginzburg–Landau equation

Sylvia Serfaty (2007)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We study vortices for solutions of the perturbed Ginzburg–Landau equations Δ u + ( u / ε 2 ) ( 1 | u | 2 ) = f ε where f ε is estimated in L 2 . We prove upper bounds for the Ginzburg–Landau energy in terms of f ε L 2 , and obtain lower bounds for f ε L 2 in terms of the vortices when these form “unbalanced clusters” where i d i 2 ( i d i ) 2 . These results will serve in Part II of this paper to provide estimates on the energy-dissipation rates for solutions of the Ginzburg–Landau heat flow, which allow one to study various phenomena occurring in this flow,...

About G-rings

Najib Mahdou (2017)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

In this paper, we are concerned with G-rings. We generalize the Kaplansky’s theorem to rings with zero-divisors. Also, we assert that if R T is a ring extension such that m T R for some regular element m of T , then T is a G-ring if and only if so is R . Also, we examine the transfer of the G-ring property to trivial ring extensions. Finally, we conclude the paper with illustrative examples discussing the utility and limits of our results.

Semicommutativity of the rings relative to prime radical

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

In this paper, we introduce a new kind of rings that behave like semicommutative rings, but satisfy yet more known results. This kind of rings is called P -semicommutative. We prove that a ring R is P -semicommutative if and only if R [ x ] is P -semicommutative if and only if R [ x , x - 1 ] is P -semicommutative. Also, if R [ [ x ] ] is P -semicommutative, then R is P -semicommutative. The converse holds provided that P ( R ) is nilpotent and R is power serieswise Armendariz. For each positive integer n , R is P -semicommutative...

Twisted group rings of strongly unbounded representation type

Let S be a commutative local ring of characteristic p, which is not a field, S* the multiplicative group of S, W a subgroup of S*, G a finite p-group, and S λ G a twisted group ring of the group G and of the ring S with a 2-cocycle λ ∈ Z²(G,S*). Denote by I n d m ( S λ G ) the set of isomorphism classes of indecomposable S λ G -modules of S-rank m. We exhibit rings S λ G for which there exists a function f λ : such that f λ ( n ) n and I n d f λ ( n ) ( S λ G ) is an infinite set for every natural n > 1. In special cases f λ ( ) contains every natural...

A Characterization of One-Element p-Bases of Rings of Constants

Piotr Jędrzejewicz (2011)

Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Mathematics

Similarity:

Let K be a unique factorization domain of characteristic p > 0, and let f ∈ K[x₁,...,xₙ] be a polynomial not lying in K [ x p , . . . , x p ] . We prove that K [ x p , . . . , x p , f ] is the ring of constants of a K-derivation of K[x₁,...,xₙ] if and only if all the partial derivatives of f are relatively prime. The proof is based on a generalization of Freudenburg’s lemma to the case of polynomials over a unique factorization domain of arbitrary characteristic.

Let  P be a long range metric perturbation of the Euclidean Laplacian on  d , d 2 . We prove local energy decay for the solutions of the wave, Klein-Gordon and Schrödinger equations associated to  P . The problem is decomposed in a low and high frequency analysis. For the high energy part, we assume a non trapping condition. For low (resp. high) frequencies we obtain a general result about the local energy decay for the group e i t f ( P ) where f has a suitable development at zero (resp. infinity). ...

Let (ₙ)ₙ be a quasianalytic differentiable system. Let m ∈ ℕ. We consider the following problem: let f m and f̂ be its Taylor series at 0 m . Split the set m of exponents into two disjoint subsets A and B, m = A B , and decompose the formal series f̂ into the sum of two formal series G and H, supported by A and B, respectively. Do there exist g , h m with Taylor series at zero G and H, respectively? The main result of this paper is the following: if we have a positive answer to the above problem for some...

Remarks on L B I -subalgebras of C ( X )

Let A ( X ) denote a subalgebra of C ( X ) which is closed under local bounded inversion, briefly, an L B I -subalgebra. By characterizing maximal ideals of A ( X ) , we generalize the notion of z A β -ideals, which was first introduced in Acharyya S.K., De D., An interesting class of ideals in subalgebras of C ( X ) ...

Stability and semiclassics in self-generated fields

We consider non-interacting particles subject to a fixed external potential V and a self-generated magnetic field B . The total energy includes the field energy β B 2 and we minimize over all particle states and magnetic fields. In the case of spin-1/2 particles this minimization leads to the coupled Maxwell-Pauli system. The parameter β tunes the coupling strength between the field and the particles and it effectively determines the strength of the field. We investigate the stability and...
