Purity of level m stratifications

Marc-Hubert Nicole, Adrian Vasiu, Torsten Wedhorn (2010)

Annales scientifiques de l'École Normale Supérieure

Similarity:

Let k be a field of characteristic p > 0 . Let D m be a BT m over k (i.e., an m -truncated Barsotti–Tate group over k ). Let S be a k -scheme and let X be a BT m over S . Let S D m ( X ) be the subscheme of S which describes the locus where X is locally for the fppf topology isomorphic to D m . If p 5 , we show that S D m ( X ) is pure in S , i.e. the immersion S D m ( X ) S is affine. For p { 2 , 3 } , we prove purity if D m satisfies a certain technical property depending only on its p -torsion D m [ p ] . For p 5 , we apply the developed techniques to show that...

On sums and products in a field

Guang-Liang Zhou, Zhi-Wei Sun (2022)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

We study sums and products in a field. Let F be a field with ch ( F ) 2 , where ch ( F ) is the characteristic of F . For any integer k 4 , we show that any x F can be written as a 1 + + a k with a 1 , , a k F and a 1 a k = 1 , and that for any α F { 0 } we can write every x F as a 1 a k with a 1 , , a k F and a 1 + + a k = α . We also prove that for any x F and k { 2 , 3 , } there are a 1 , , a 2 k F such that a 1 + + a 2 k = x = a 1 a 2 k .

The Ribes-Zalesskii property of some one relator groups

Gilbert Mantika, Narcisse Temate-Tangang, Daniel Tieudjo (2022)

Archivum Mathematicum

Similarity:

The profinite topology on any abstract group G , is one such that the fundamental system of neighborhoods of the identity is given by all its subgroups of finite index. We say that a group G has the Ribes-Zalesskii property of rank k , or is RZ k with k a natural number, if any product H 1 H 2 H k of finitely generated subgroups H 1 , H 2 , , H k is closed in the profinite topology on G . And a group is said to have the Ribes-Zalesskii property or is RZ if it is RZ k for any natural number k . In this paper we characterize...

Automorphisms of metacyclic groups

Haimiao Chen, Yueshan Xiong, Zhongjian Zhu (2018)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

A metacyclic group H can be presented as α , β : α n = 1 , β m = α t , β α β - 1 = α r for some n , m , t , r . Each endomorphism σ of H is determined by σ ( α ) = α x 1 β y 1 , σ ( β ) = α x 2 β y 2 for some integers x 1 , x 2 , y 1 , y 2 . We give sufficient and necessary conditions on x 1 , x 2 , y 1 , y 2 for σ to be an automorphism.

Sum-product theorems and incidence geometry

Mei-Chu Chang, Jozsef Solymosi (2007)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

In this paper we prove the following theorems in incidence geometry. 1. There is δ > 0 such that for any P 1 , , P 4 , and Q 1 , , Q n 2 , if there are n ( 1 + δ ) / 2 many distinct lines between P i and Q j for all i , j , then P 1 , , P 4 are collinear. If the number of the distinct lines is < c n 1 / 2 then the cross ratio of the four points is algebraic. 2. Given c > 0 , there is δ > 0 such that for any P 1 , P 2 , P 3 2 noncollinear, and Q 1 , , Q n 2 , if there are c n 1 / 2 many distinct lines between P i and Q j for all i , j , then for any P 2 { P 1 , P 2 , P 3 } , we have δ n distinct lines between P and Q j . 3. Given...

Thompson’s conjecture for the alternating group of degree 2 p and 2 p + 1

Azam Babai, Ali Mahmoudifar (2017)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

For a finite group G denote by N ( G ) the set of conjugacy class sizes of G . In 1980s, J. G. Thompson posed the following conjecture: If L is a finite nonabelian simple group, G is a finite group with trivial center and N ( G ) = N ( L ) , then G L . We prove this conjecture for an infinite class of simple groups. Let p be an odd prime. We show that every finite group G with the property Z ( G ) = 1 and N ( G ) = N ( A i ) is necessarily isomorphic to A i , where i { 2 p , 2 p + 1 } .

Let G be a finite group. The main supergraph 𝒮 ( G ) is a graph with vertex set G in which two vertices x and y are adjacent if and only if o ( x ) o ( y ) or o ( y ) o ( x ) . In this paper, we will show that G S z ( q ) if and only if 𝒮 ( G ) 𝒮 ( S z ( q ) ) , where q = 2 2 m + 1 8 .

𝒞 k -regularity for the ¯ -equation with a support condition

Shaban Khidr, Osama Abdelkader (2017)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Let D be a 𝒞 d q -convex intersection, d 2 , 0 q n - 1 , in a complex manifold X of complex dimension n , n 2 , and let E be a holomorphic vector bundle of rank N over X . In this paper, 𝒞 k -estimates, k = 2 , 3 , , , for solutions to the ¯ -equation with small loss of smoothness are obtained for E -valued ( 0 , s ) -forms on D when n - q s n . In addition, we solve the ¯ -equation with a support condition in 𝒞 k -spaces. More precisely, we prove that for a ¯ -closed form f in 𝒞 0 , q k ( X D , E ) , 1 q n - 2 , n 3 , with compact support and for ε with 0 < ε < 1 there...
