On semigroups with an infinitesimal operator

Jolanta Olko (2005)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Similarity:

Let F t : t 0 be an iteration semigroup of linear continuous set-valued functions. If the semigroup has an infinitesimal operator then it is a uniformly continuous semigroup majorized by an exponential semigroup. Moreover, for sufficiently small t every linear selection of F t is invertible and there exists an exponential semigroup f t : t 0 of linear continuous selections f t of F t .

Savita Bhatnagar, H. L. Vasudeva (2002)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

Let I = [0, 1] be the compact topological semigroup with max multiplication and usual topology. C(I), L p ( I ) , 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞, are the associated Banach algebras. The aim of the paper is to characterise H o m C ( I ) ( L r ( I ) , L p ( I ) ) and their preduals.

On the theory of remediability

Hassan Emamirad (2003)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

Suppose G ( t ) t 0 and G ( t ) t 0 are two families of semigroups on a Banach space X (not necessarily of class C₀) such that for some initial datum u₀, G₁(t)u₀ tends towards an undesirable state u*. After remedying by means of an operator ρ we continue the evolution of the state by applying G₂(t) and after time 2t we retrieve a prosperous state u given by u = G₂(t)ρG₁(t)u₀. Here we are concerned with various properties of the semigroup (t): ρ → G₂(t)ρG₁(t). We define (X) to be the space of remedial operators...

On the K-theory of the C * -algebra generated by the left regular representation of an Ore semigroup

Joachim Cuntz, Siegfried Echterhoff, Xin Li (2015)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We compute the K -theory of C * -algebras generated by the left regular representation of left Ore semigroups satisfying certain regularity conditions. Our result describes the K -theory of these semigroup C * -algebras in terms of the K -theory for the reduced group C * -algebras of certain groups which are typically easier to handle. Then we apply our result to specific semigroups from algebraic number theory.

A local Landau type inequality for semigroup orbits

Gerd Herzog, Peer Christian Kunstmann (2014)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

Given a strongly continuous semigroup ( S ( t ) ) t 0 on a Banach space X with generator A and an element f ∈ D(A²) satisfying | | S ( t ) f | | e - ω t | | f | | and | | S ( t ) A ² f | | e - ω t | | A ² f | | for all t ≥ 0 and some ω > 0, we derive a Landau type inequality for ||Af|| in terms of ||f|| and ||A²f||. This inequality improves on the usual Landau inequality that holds in the case ω = 0.

The positive cone of a Banach lattice. Coincidence of topologies and metrizability

Zbigniew Lipecki (2023)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

Let X be a Banach lattice, and denote by X + its positive cone. The weak topology on X + is metrizable if and only if it coincides with the strong topology if and only if X is Banach-lattice isomorphic to l 1 ( Γ ) for a set Γ . The weak * topology on X + * is metrizable if and only if X is Banach-lattice isomorphic to a C ( K ) -space, where K is a metrizable compact space.

Lattice copies of c₀ and in spaces of integrable functions for a vector measure

S. Okada, W. J. Ricker, E. A. Sánchez Pérez

Similarity:

The spaces L¹(m) of all m-integrable (resp. L ¹ w ( m ) of all scalarly m-integrable) functions for a vector measure m, taking values in a complex locally convex Hausdorff space X (briefly, lcHs), are themselves lcHs for the mean convergence topology. Additionally, L ¹ w ( m ) is always a complex vector lattice; this is not necessarily so for L¹(m). To identify precisely when L¹(m) is also a complex vector lattice is one of our central aims. Whenever X is sequentially complete, then this is the case. If,...

Is A - 1 an infinitesimal generator?

Hans Zwart (2007)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

In this paper we study the question whether A - 1 is the infinitesimal generator of a bounded C₀-semigroup if A generates a bounded C₀-semigroup. If the semigroup generated by A is analytic and sectorially bounded, then the same holds for the semigroup generated by A - 1 . However, we construct a contraction semigroup with growth bound minus infinity for which A - 1 does not generate a bounded semigroup. Using this example we construct an infinitesimal generator of a bounded semigroup for which its...

Strong measure zero and meager-additive sets through the prism of fractal measures

Ondřej Zindulka (2019)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

We develop a theory of sharp measure zero sets that parallels Borel’s strong measure zero, and prove a theorem analogous to Galvin–Mycielski–Solovay theorem, namely that a set of reals has sharp measure zero if and only if it is meager-additive. Some consequences: A subset of 2 ω is meager-additive if and only if it is -additive; if f : 2 ω 2 ω is continuous and X is meager-additive, then so is f ( X ) .

Hyperreflexivity of bilattices

Kamila Kliś-Garlicka (2016)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

The notion of a bilattice was introduced by Shulman. A bilattice is a subspace analogue for a lattice. In this work the definition of hyperreflexivity for bilattices is given and studied. We give some general results concerning this notion. To a given lattice we can construct the bilattice Σ . Similarly, having a bilattice Σ we may consider the lattice Σ . In this paper we study the relationship between hyperreflexivity of subspace lattices and of their associated bilattices. Some examples...

The algebra of the subspace semigroup of M ( q )

Jan Okniński (2002)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

The semigroup S = S ( M ( q ) ) of subspaces of the algebra M ( q ) of 2 × 2 matrices over a finite field q is studied. The ideal structure of S, the regular -classes of S and the structure of the complex semigroup algebra ℂ[S] are described.

On Meager Additive and Null Additive Sets in the Cantor Space 2 ω and in ℝ

Tomasz Weiss (2009)

Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Mathematics

Similarity:

Let T be the standard Cantor-Lebesgue function that maps the Cantor space 2 ω onto the unit interval ⟨0,1⟩. We prove within ZFC that for every X 2 ω , X is meager additive in 2 ω iff T(X) is meager additive in ⟨0,1⟩. As a consequence, we deduce that the cartesian product of meager additive sets in ℝ remains meager additive in ℝ × ℝ. In this note, we also study the relationship between null additive sets in 2 ω and ℝ.

Dieudonné-type theorems for lattice group-valued k -triangular set functions

Similarity:

Some versions of Dieudonné-type convergence and uniform boundedness theorems are proved, for k -triangular and regular lattice group-valued set functions. We use sliding hump techniques and direct methods. We extend earlier results, proved in the real case. Furthermore, we pose some open problems.

On left ϕ -biflat Banach algebras

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

We study the notion of left ϕ -biflatness for Segal algebras and semigroup algebras. We show that the Segal algebra S ( G ) is left ϕ -biflat if and only if G is amenable. Also we characterize left ϕ -biflatness of semigroup algebra l 1 ( S ) in terms of biflatness, when S is a Clifford semigroup.

Sufficient conditions for a T-partial order obtained from triangular norms to be a lattice

Lifeng Li, Jianke Zhang, Chang Zhou (2019)

Kybernetika

Similarity:

For a t-norm T on a bounded lattice ( L , ) , a partial order T was recently defined and studied. In [11], it was pointed out that the binary relation T is a partial order on L , but ( L , T ) may not be a lattice in general. In this paper, several sufficient conditions under which ( L , T ) is a lattice are given, as an answer to an open problem posed by the authors of [11]. Furthermore, some examples of t-norms on L such that ( L , T ) is a lattice are presented.

The one-sided ergodic Hilbert transform in Banach spaces

Similarity:

Let T be a power-bounded operator on a (real or complex) Banach space. We study the convergence of the one-sided ergodic Hilbert transform l i m n k = 1 n ( T k x ) / k . We prove that weak and strong convergence are equivalent, and in a reflexive space also s u p n | | k = 1 n ( T k x ) / k | | < is equivalent to the convergence. We also show that - k = 1 ( T k ) / k (which converges on (I-T)X) is precisely the infinitesimal generator of the semigroup ( I - T ) | ( I - T ) X ¯ r .

On upper triangular nonnegative matrices

We first investigate factorizations of elements of the semigroup S of upper triangular matrices with nonnegative entries and nonzero determinant, provide a formula for ρ ( S ) , and, given A S , also provide formulas for l ( A ) , L ( A ) and ρ ( A ) . As a consequence, open problem 2 and problem 4 presented in N. Baeth et al. (2011), are partly answered. Secondly, we study the semigroup of upper triangular matrices with only positive integral entries, compute some invariants of such semigroup, and also partly answer...

A note on the super-additive and sub-additive transformations of aggregation functions: The multi-dimensional case

Fateme Kouchakinejad, Alexandra Šipošová (2017)

For an aggregation function A we know that it is bounded by A * and A * which are its super-additive and sub-additive transformations, respectively. Also, it is known that if A * is directionally convex, then A = A * and A * is linear; similarly, if A * is directionally concave, then A = A * and A * is linear. We generalize these results replacing the directional convexity and concavity conditions by the weaker assumptions of overrunning a super-additive function and underrunning a sub-additive function, respectively. ...
