A multiplier theorem for Fourier series in several variables

Nakhle Asmar, Florence Newberger, Saleem Watson (2006)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

We define a new type of multiplier operators on L p ( N ) , where N is the N-dimensional torus, and use tangent sequences from probability theory to prove that the operator norms of these multipliers are independent of the dimension N. Our construction is motivated by the conjugate function operator on L p ( N ) , to which the theorem applies as a particular example.

The Bogomolov multiplier of groups of order p 7 and exponent p

Zeinab Araghi Rostami, Mohsen Parvizi, Peyman Niroomand (2024)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

We conduct an in-depth investigation into the structure of the Bogomolov multiplier for groups of order p 7 ( p > 2 ) and exponent p . We present a comprehensive classification of these groups, identifying those with nontrivial Bogomolov multipliers and distinguishing them from groups with trivial multipliers. Our analysis not only clarifies the conditions under which the Bogomolov multiplier is nontrivial but also refines existing computational methods, enhancing the process of...

Completely bounded lacunary sets for compact non-abelian groups

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

In this paper, we introduce and study the notion of completely bounded Λ p sets ( Λ p c b for short) for compact, non-abelian groups G. We characterize Λ p c b sets in terms of completely bounded L p ( G ) multipliers. We prove that when G is an infinite product of special unitary groups of arbitrarily large dimension, there are sets consisting of representations of unbounded degree that are Λ p sets for all p < ∞, but are not Λ p c b for any p ≥ 4. This is done by showing that the space of completely bounded L p ( G ) ...

A new function space and applications

We define a new function space B , which contains in particular BMO, BV, and W 1 / p , p , 1 < p < . We investigate its embedding into Lebesgue and Marcinkiewicz spaces. We present several inequalities involving L p norms of integer-valued functions in B . We introduce a significant closed subspace, B 0 , of B , containing in particular VMO and W 1 / p , p , 1 p < . The above mentioned estimates imply in particular that integer-valued functions belonging to B 0 are necessarily constant. This framework provides a “common roof”...

Similarity:

Let ℳ be a hyperfinite finite von Nemann algebra and ( k ) k 1 be an increasing filtration of finite-dimensional von Neumann subalgebras of ℳ. We investigate abstract fractional integrals associated to the filtration ( k ) k 1 . For a finite noncommutative martingale x = ( x k ) 1 k n L ( ) adapted to ( k ) k 1 and 0 < α < 1, the fractional integral of x of order α is defined by setting I α x = k = 1 n ζ k α d x k for an appropriate sequence ( ζ k ) k 1 of scalars. For the case of a noncommutative dyadic martingale in L₁() where is the type II₁ hyperfinite factor...

An M q ( ) -functional calculus for power-bounded operators on certain UMD spaces

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

For 1 ≤ q < ∞, let q ( ) denote the Banach algebra consisting of the bounded complex-valued functions on the unit circle having uniformly bounded q-variation on the dyadic arcs. We describe a broad class ℐ of UMD spaces such that whenever X ∈ ℐ, the sequence space ℓ²(ℤ,X) admits the classes q ( ) as Fourier multipliers, for an appropriate range of values of q > 1 (the range of q depending on X). This multiplier result expands the vector-valued Marcinkiewicz Multiplier Theorem in the direction...

Oscillating multipliers on the Heisenberg group

Let ℒ be the sublaplacian on the Heisenberg group Hⁿ. A recent result of Müller and Stein shows that the operator - 1 / 2 s i n is bounded on L p ( H ) for all p satisfying |1/p - 1/2| < 1/(2n). In this paper we show that the same operator is bounded on L p in the bigger range |1/p - 1/2| < 1/(2n-1) if we consider only functions which are band limited in the central variable.

Commutators of Marcinkiewicz integrals on Herz spaces with variable exponent

Hongbin Wang (2016)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Let Ω L s ( S n - 1 ) for s 1 be a homogeneous function of degree zero and b a BMO function. The commutator generated by the Marcinkiewicz integral μ Ω and b is defined by [ b , μ Ω ] ( f ) ( x ) = ( 0 | x - y | t Ω ( x - y ) | x - y | n - 1 [ b ( x ) - b ( y ) ] f ( y ) d y | 2 d t t 3 1 / 2 . In this paper, the author proves the ( L p ( · ) ( n ) , L p ( · ) ( n ) ) -boundedness of the Marcinkiewicz integral operator μ Ω and its commutator [ b , μ Ω ] when p ( · ) satisfies some conditions. Moreover, the author obtains the corresponding result about μ Ω and [ b , μ Ω ] on Herz spaces with variable exponent.

A localization property for B p q s and F p q s spaces

Let f j = k a k f ( 2 j + 1 x - 2 k ) , where the sum is taken over the lattice of all points k in n having integer-valued components, j∈ℕ and a k . Let A p q s be either B p q s or F p q s (s ∈ ℝ, 0 < p < ∞, 0 < q ≤ ∞) on n . The aim of the paper is to clarify under what conditions f j | A p q s is equivalent to 2 j ( s - n / p ) ( k | a k | p ) 1 / p f | A p q s .

C * -points vs P -points and P -points

Similarity:

In a Tychonoff space X , the point p X is called a C * -point if every real-valued continuous function on C { p } can be extended continuously to p . Every point in an extremally disconnected space is a C * -point. A classic example is the space 𝐖 * = ω 1 + 1 consisting of the countable ordinals together with ω 1 . The point ω 1 is known to be a C * -point as well as a P -point. We supply a characterization of C * -points in totally ordered spaces. The remainder of our time is aimed at studying when a point in a product space...

Let G be a finite group and H a subgroup. Denote by D ( G ; H ) (or D ( G ) ) the crossed product of C ( G ) and H (or G ) with respect to the adjoint action of the latter on the former. Consider the algebra D ( G ) , e generated by D ( G ) and e , where we regard E as an idempotent operator e on D ( G ) for a certain conditional expectation E of D ( G ) onto D ( G ; H ) . Let us call D ( G ) , e the basic construction from the conditional expectation E : D ( G ) D ( G ; H ) . Let d be a positive integer and α a real algebraic number of degree d + 1. Set α ̲ : = ( α , α ² , . . . , α d ) . It is well-known that c ( α ̲ ) : = l i m i n f q q 1 / d · | | q α ̲ | | > 0 , where ||·|| denotes the distance to the nearest integer. Furthermore, c ( α ̲ ) n - 1 / d c ( n α ̲ ) n c ( α ̲ ) for any integer n ≥ 1. Our main result asserts that there exists a real number C, depending only on α, such that c ( n α ̲ ) C n - 1 / d for any integer n ≥ 1.

For two given symmetric sequence spaces E and F we study the (E,F)-multiplier space, that is, the space of all matrices M for which the Schur product M ∗ A maps E into F boundedly whenever A does.
