Classification of rings with toroidal Jacobson graph

Krishnan Selvakumar, Manoharan Subajini (2016)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Let R be a commutative ring with nonzero identity and J ( R ) the Jacobson radical of R . The Jacobson graph of R , denoted by 𝔍 R , is defined as the graph with vertex set R J ( R ) such that two distinct vertices x and y are adjacent if and only if 1 - x y is not a unit of R . The genus of a simple graph G is the smallest nonnegative integer n such that G can be embedded into an orientable surface S n . In this paper, we investigate the genus number of the compact Riemann surface in which 𝔍 R can be embedded and explicitly...

Locally Nilpotent Monomial Derivations

Marek Karaś (2004)

Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Mathematics

We prove that every locally nilpotent monomial k-derivation of k[X₁,...,Xₙ] is triangular, whenever k is a ring of characteristic zero. A method of testing monomial k-derivations for local nilpotency is also presented.

Polynomial orbits in finite commutative rings

Petra Konečná (2006)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Let R be a finite commutative ring with unity. We determine the set of all possible cycle lengths in the ring of polynomials with rational integral coefficients.

Structure of cubic mapping graphs for the ring of Gaussian integers modulo n

Yangjiang Wei, Jizhu Nan, Gaohua Tang (2012)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Let n [ i ] be the ring of Gaussian integers modulo n . We construct for n [ i ] a cubic mapping graph Γ ( n ) whose vertex set is all the elements of n [ i ] and for which there is a directed edge from a n [ i ] to b n [ i ] if b = a 3 . This article investigates in detail the structure of Γ ( n ) . We give suffcient and necessary conditions for the existence of cycles with length t . The number of t -cycles in Γ 1 ( n ) is obtained and we also examine when a vertex lies on a t -cycle of Γ 2 ( n ) , where Γ 1 ( n ) is induced by all the units of n [ i ] while Γ 2 ( n ) is induced by all the...

The cubic mapping graph for the ring of Gaussian integers modulo n

Yangjiang Wei, Jizhu Nan, Gaohua Tang (2011)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

The article studies the cubic mapping graph Γ ( n ) of n [ i ] , the ring of Gaussian integers modulo n . For each positive integer n > 1 , the number of fixed points and the in-degree of the elements 1 ¯ and 0 ¯ in Γ ( n ) are found. Moreover, complete characterizations in terms of n are given in which Γ 2 ( n ) is semiregular, where Γ 2 ( n ) is induced by all the zero-divisors of n [ i ] .

The fundamental constituents of iteration digraphs of finite commutative rings

Jizhu Nan, Yangjiang Wei, Gaohua Tang (2014)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

For a finite commutative ring R and a positive integer k 2 , we construct an iteration digraph G ( R , k ) whose vertex set is R and for which there is a directed edge from a R to b R if b = a k . Let R = R 1 ... R s , where s > 1 and R i is a finite commutative local ring for i { 1 , ... , s } . Let N be a subset of { R 1 , , R s } (it is possible that N is the empty set ). We define the fundamental constituents G N * ( R , k ) of G ( R , k ) induced by the vertices which are of the form { ( a 1 , , a s ) R : a i D ( R i ) if R i N , otherwise a i U ( R i ) , i = 1 , ... , s } , where U ( R ) denotes the unit group of R and D ( R ) denotes the zero-divisor set of R . We investigate...

The moduli space of commutative algebras of finite rank

Bjorn Poonen (2008)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

The moduli space of rank- n commutative algebras equipped with an ordered basis is an affine scheme 𝔅 n of finite type over , with geometrically connected fibers. It is smooth if and only if n 3 . It is reducible if n 8 (and the converse holds, at least if we remove the fibers above 2 and 3 ). The relative dimension of 𝔅 n is 2 27 n 3 + O ( n 8 / 3 ) . The subscheme parameterizing étale algebras is isomorphic to GL n / S n , which is of dimension only n 2 . For n 8 , there exist algebras that are not limits of étale algebras. The dimension calculations...
