Knit products of some groups and their applications
It is proved that a soluble residually finite minimax group is finite-by-nilpotent if and only if it has only finitely many maximal subgroups which are not normal.
The paper is concerned with the class of groups satisfying the finite embedding (FE) property. This is a generalization of residually finite groups. In [2] it was asked whether there exist FE-groups which are not residually finite. Here we present such examples. To do this, we construct a family of three-generator soluble FE-groups with torsion-free abelian factors. We study necessary and sufficient conditions for groups from this class to be residually finite. This answers the questions asked in...
Let G* denote a nonprincipal ultrapower of a group G. In 1986 M.~Boffa posed a question equivalent to the following one: if G does not satisfy a positive law, does G* contain a free nonabelian subsemigroup? We give the affirmative answer to this question in the large class of groups containing all residually finite and all soluble groups, in fact, all groups considered in traditional textbooks on group theory.
A subgroup H of a group G is inert if |H: H ∩ H g| is finite for all g ∈ G and a group G is totally inert if every subgroup H of G is inert. We investigate the structure of minimal normal subgroups of totally inert groups and show that infinite locally graded simple groups cannot be totally inert.
