When every point is either transitive or periodic

Tomasz Downarowicz, Xiangdong Ye (2002)

Colloquium Mathematicae

We study transitive non-minimal ℕ-actions and ℤ-actions. We show that there are such actions whose non-transitive points are periodic and whose topological entropy is positive. It turns out that such actions can be obtained by perturbing minimal systems under some reasonable assumptions.

Which Bernoulli measures are good measures?

Ethan Akin, Randall Dougherty, R. Daniel Mauldin, Andrew Yingst (2008)

Colloquium Mathematicae

For measures on a Cantor space, the demand that the measure be "good" is a useful homogeneity condition. We examine the question of when a Bernoulli measure on the sequence space for an alphabet of size n is good. Complete answers are given for the n = 2 cases and the rational cases. Partial results are obtained for the general cases.

X-minimal patterns and a generalization of Sharkovskiĭ's theorem

Jozef Bobok, Milan Kuchta (1998)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We study the law of coexistence of different types of cycles for a continuous map of the interval. For this we introduce the notion of eccentricity of a pattern and characterize those patterns with a given eccentricity that are simplest from the point of view of the forcing relation. We call these patterns X-minimal. We obtain a generalization of Sharkovskiĭ's Theorem where the notion of period is replaced by the notion of eccentricity.

ω-Limit sets for triangular mappings

Victor Jiménez López, Jaroslav Smítal (2001)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

In 1992 Agronsky and Ceder proved that any finite collection of non-degenerate Peano continua in the unit square is an ω-limit set for a continuous map. We improve this result by showing that it is valid, with natural restrictions, for the triangular maps (x,y) ↦ (f(x),g(x,y)) of the square. For example, we show that a non-trivial Peano continuum C ⊂ I² is an orbit-enclosing ω-limit set of a triangular map if and only if it has a projection property. If C is a finite union of Peano continua then,...
