We study one-parameter families of diffeomorphisms unfolding heterodimensional cycles (i.e. cycles containing periodic points of different indices). We construct an open set of such arcs such that, for a subset of the parameter space with positive relative density at the bifurcation value, the resulting nonwandering set is the disjoint union of two hyperbolic basic sets of different indices and a strong partially hyperbolic set which is robustly transitive. The dynamics of the diffeomorphisms we...
We study the local behaviour of inflection points of families of plane curves in the
projective plane. We develop normal forms and versal deformation concepts for holomorphic
function germs which take into account
the inflection points of the fibres of . We give a classification of such function-
germs which is a projective analog of Arnold’s A,D,E classification. We compute the
versal deformation with respect to inflections of Morse function-germs.
We prove that every diffeomorphism away from homoclinic tangencies is entropy expansive, with locally uniform expansivity constant. Consequently, such diffeomorphisms satisfy Shub’s entropy conjecture: the entropy is bounded from below by the spectral radius in homology. Moreover, they admit principal symbolic extensions, and the topological entropy and metrical entropy vary continuously with the map. In contrast, generic diffeomorphisms with persistent tangencies are not entropy expansive.
