On D-dimension of metrizable spaces

Wojciech Olszewski (1991)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

For every cardinal τ and every ordinal α, we construct a metrizable space M α ( τ ) and a strongly countable-dimensional compact space Z α ( τ ) of weight τ such that D ( M α ( τ ) ) α , D ( Z α ( τ ) ) α and each metrizable space X of weight τ such that D(X) ≤ α is homeomorphic to a subspace of M α ( τ ) and to a subspace of Z α + 1 ( τ ) .

On families of Lindelöf and related subspaces of 2 ω

Lúcia Junqueira, Piotr Koszmider (2001)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We consider the families of all subspaces of size ω₁ of 2 ω (or of a compact zero-dimensional space X of weight ω₁ in general) which are normal, have the Lindelöf property or are closed under limits of convergent ω₁-sequences. Various relations among these families modulo the club filter in [ X ] ω are shown to be consistently possible. One of the main tools is dealing with a subspace of the form X ∩ M for an elementary submodel M of size ω₁. Various results with this flavor are obtained. Another tool used...

On FU( p )-spaces and p -sequential spaces

Salvador García-Ferreira (1991)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Following Kombarov we say that X is p -sequential, for p α * , if for every non-closed subset A of X there is f α X such that f ( α ) A and f ¯ ( p ) X A . This suggests the following definition due to Comfort and Savchenko, independently: X is a FU( p )-space if for every A X and every x A - there is a function f α A such that f ¯ ( p ) = x . It is not hard to see that p RK q ( RK denotes the Rudin–Keisler order) every p -sequential space is q -sequential every FU( p )-space is a FU( q )-space. We generalize the spaces S n to construct examples of p -sequential...

On minimal Hausdorff and minimal Urysohn functions

Filippo Cammaroto, Andrei Catalioto, Jack Porter (2011)

Open Mathematics

In this article, we extend the work on minimal Hausdorff functions initiated by Cammaroto, Fedorchuk and Porter in a 1998 paper. Also, minimal Urysohn functions are introduced and developed. The properties of heredity and productivity are examined and developed for both minimal Hausdorff and minimal Urysohn functions.

On n -in-countable bases

S. A. Peregudov (2000)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Some results concerning spaces with countably weakly uniform bases are generalized for spaces with n -in-countable ones.

On nowhere first-countable compact spaces with countable π -weight

Jan van Mill (2015)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

The minimum weight of a nowhere first-countable compact space of countable π -weight is shown to be κ B , the least cardinal κ for which the real line can be covered by κ many nowhere dense sets.
