Components and local prehomogeneity.
We consider when one-to-one continuous mappings can improve normality-type and compactness-type properties of topological spaces. In particular, for any Tychonoff non-pseudocompact space there is a such that can be condensed onto a normal (-compact) space if and only if there is no measurable cardinal. For any Tychonoff space and any cardinal there is a Tychonoff space which preserves many properties of and such that any one-to-one continuous image of , , contains a closed copy...
A non-connected, Hausdorff space with a countable network has a connected Hausdorff-subtopology iff the space is not-H-closed. This result answers two questions posed by Tkačenko, Tkachuk, Uspenskij, and Wilson [Comment. Math. Univ. Carolinae 37 (1996), 825–841]. A non-H-closed, Hausdorff space with countable -weight and no connected, Hausdorff subtopology is provided.
We prove that every connected locally compact Abelian topological group is sequentially connected, i.e., it cannot be the union of two proper disjoint sequentially closed subsets. This fact is then applied to the study of extensions of topological groups. We show, in particular, that if is a connected locally compact Abelian subgroup of a Hausdorff topological group and the quotient space is sequentially connected, then so is .
In this paper we introduce a connected topology T on the set ℕ of positive integers whose base consists of all arithmetic progressions connected in Golomb’s topology. It turns out that all arithmetic progressions which are connected in the topology T form a basis for Golomb’s topology. Further we examine connectedness of arithmetic progressions in the division topology T′ on ℕ which was defined by Rizza in 1993. Immediate consequences of these studies are results concerning local connectedness of...
This is an expository paper about constructions of locally compact, Hausdorff, scattered spaces whose Cantor-Bendixson height has cardinality greater than their Cantor-Bendixson width.
Let be the Isbell-Mr’owka space associated to the -family . We show that if is a countable subgroup of the group of all permutations of , then there is a -family such that every can be extended to an autohomeomorphism of . For a -family , we set for all . It is shown that for every there is a -family such that . As a consequence of this result we have that there is a -family such that whenever and , where for . We also notice that there is no -family such...
It is shown that there exists a -compact topological group which cannot be represented as a continuous image of a Lindelöf -group, see Example 2.8. This result is based on an inequality for the cardinality of continuous images of Lindelöf -groups (Theorem 2.1). A closely related result is Corollary 4.4: if a space is a continuous image of a Lindelöf -group, then there exists a covering of by dyadic compacta such that . We also show that if a homogeneous compact space is a continuous...
In this paper the concept of fuzzy contra -continuity in the sense of A. P. Sostak (1985) is introduced. Some interesting properties and characterizations are investigated. Also, some applications to fuzzy compact spaces are established.
