On the homology of mapping spaces

Semën Podkorytov (2011)

Open Mathematics

Following a Bendersky-Gitler idea, we construct an isomorphism between Anderson’s and Arone’s complexes modelling the chain complex of a mapping space. This allows us to apply Shipley’s convergence theorem to Arone’s model. As a corollary, we reduce the problem of homotopy equivalence for certain “toy” spaces to a problem in homological algebra.

Properties of a hypothetical exotic complex structure on P 3

J. R. Brown (2007)

Mathematica Bohemica

We consider almost-complex structures on P 3 whose total Chern classes differ from that of the standard (integrable) almost-complex structure. E. Thomas established the existence of many such structures. We show that if there exists an “exotic” integrable almost-complex structures, then the resulting complex manifold would have specific Hodge numbers which do not vanish. We also give a necessary condition for the nondegeneration of the Frölicher spectral sequence at the second level.

Surgery on pairs of closed manifolds

Alberto Cavicchioli, Yuri V. Muranov, Fulvia Spaggiari (2009)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

To apply surgery theory to the problem of classifying pairs of closed manifolds, it is necessary to know the subgroup of the group L P * generated by those elements which are realized by normal maps to a pair of closed manifolds. This closely relates to the surgery problem for a closed manifold and to the computation of the assembly map. In this paper we completely determine such subgroups for many cases of Browder-Livesay pairs of closed manifolds. Moreover, very explicit results are obtained in the...
