On closed 4-manifolds admitting a Morse function with 4 critical points
We prove that four manifolds diffeomorphic on the complement of a point have the same Donaldson invariants.
We discuss Taubes' idea to perturb the monopole equations on symplectic manifolds to compute the Seiberg-Witten invariants in the light of Witten's symmetry trick in the Kähler case.
Given a closed 4-manifold M, let M* be the simply-connected 4-manifold obtained from M by killing the fundamental group. We study the relation between the intersection forms λM and λM*. Finally some topological consequences and examples are described.
We show that there exists a family of simply connected, symplectic 4-manifolds such that the (Poincaré dual of the) canonical class admits both connected and disconnected symplectic representatives. This answers a question raised by Fintushel and Stern.
