Selection in parametric models via some stepdown procedures

Konrad Furmańczyk (2014)

Applicationes Mathematicae

The paper considers the problem of consistent variable selection in parametic models with the use of stepdown multiple hypothesis procedures. Our approach completes the results of Bunea et al. [J. Statist. Plann. Inference 136 (2006)]. A simulation study supports the results obtained.

Selective F tests for sub-normal models

Célia Maria Pinto Nunes, João Tiago Mexia (2003)

Discussiones Mathematicae Probability and Statistics

F tests that are specially powerful for selected alternatives are built for sub-normal models. In these models the observation vector is the sum of a vector that stands for what is measured with a normal error vector, both vectors being independent. The results now presented generalize the treatment given by Dias (1994) for normal fixed-effects models, and consider the testing of hypothesis on the ordering of mean values and components.

Selective generalized F tests

C. Nunes, J. T. Mexia (2004)

Discussiones Mathematicae Probability and Statistics

Generalized F tests were introduced by Michalski and Zmyślony (1996) for variance components and later (1999) for linear functions of parameters in mixed linear models. We now use generalized polar coordinates to obtain, for the second case, tests that are more powerful for selected families of alternatives.

Significance tests to identify regulated proteins based on a large number of small samples

Frank Klawonn (2012)

Kybernetika

Modern biology is interested in better understanding mechanisms within cells. For this purpose, products of cells like metabolites, peptides, proteins or mRNA are measured and compared under different conditions, for instance healthy cells vs. infected cells. Such experiments usually yield regulation or expression values – the abundance or absence of a cell product in one condition compared to another one – for a large number of cell products, but with only a few replicates. In order to distinguish...

Skupinové testování – oddělující systémy

A. Jančařík, Tomáš Kepka (2021)

Pokroky matematiky, fyziky a astronomie

Some aspects of the conditional inference when the sample size is random.

A.K.P.C. Swain (1983)

Trabajos de Estadística e Investigación Operativa

The conditional test is compared with other relevant test procedures for testing parameters of Normal and Exponential populations. It is seen that under certain conditions the conditional test is more powerful than the relevant unconditional tests. An example is provided where the conditional test given the ancillary is uniformaly more powerful than the obvious unconditional test.

Some inferential questions in regard to analysing two-way Layouts and associated linear model theory and practice

Brenton R. Clarke, Antony G. Monaco (2004)

Discussiones Mathematicae Probability and Statistics

In analysing a well known data set from the literature which can be thought of as a two-way layout it transpires that a robust adaptive regression approach for identifying outliers fails to be sensitive enough to detect the possible interchange of two observations. On the other hand if one takes the classical approach of diagnostic checking one may also stop too early and be satisfied with a model that falls short of a more detailed analysis that takes account of heteroscedasticity in the data....

Some remarks on the individuals-score distance and its applications to statistical inference.

Antonio Miñarro, Josep M. Oller (1992)

Qüestiió

This paper is concerned with the study of some properties of the distance between statistical individuals based on representations on the dual tangent space of a parametric manifold representation of a statistical model. Explicit expressions for distances are obtained for well-known families of distributions. We have also considered applications of the distance to parameter estimation, testing statistical hypotheses and discriminant analysis.

Stable hypothesis for mixed models with balanced cross-nesting

Dário Ferreira, João Tiago Mexia, Sandra Saraiva Ferreira (2005)

Discussiones Mathematicae Probability and Statistics

Stable hypothesis are hypothesis that may refer either for the fixed part or for the random part of the model. We will consider such hypothesis for models with balanced cross-nesting. Generalized F tests will be derived. It will be shown how to use Monte-Carlo methods to evaluate p-values for those tests.

Statistical choice of non-separated one-parameter models.

José Tiago de Oliveira (1985)

Trabajos de Estadística e Investigación Operativa

The purpose of this paper is to study the asymptotic choice between two models {F(x|α), α ∈ A ⊆ R} and {G(x|β), β ∈ B ⊆ R}, A and B being intervals but such that for (α0, β0}, and only for this pair, we have F(x|α0) = G(x|β0).

Statistical Inference about the Drift Parameter in Stochastic Processes

David Stibůrek (2013)

Acta Universitatis Palackianae Olomucensis. Facultas Rerum Naturalium. Mathematica

In statistical inference on the drift parameter a in the Wiener process with a constant drift Y t = a t + W t there is a large number of options how to do it. We may, for example, base this inference on the properties of the standard normal distribution applied to the differences between the observed values of the process at discrete times. Although such methods are very simple, it turns out that more appropriate is to use the sequential methods. For the hypotheses testing about the drift parameter it is more...
