A model representing the vibrations of a fluid-solid coupled structure is considered. Following Hilbert Uniqueness Method (HUM) introduced by Lions, we establish exact controllability results for this model with an internal control in the fluid part and there is no control in the solid part. Novel features which arise because of the coupling are pointed out. It is a source of difficulty in the proof of observability inequalities, definition of weak solutions and the proof of controllability results....
We consider the problem of boundary control of an elastic system with coupling to a potential equation. The potential equation represents the linearized motions of an incompressible inviscid fluid in a cavity bounded in part by an elastic membrane. Sufficient control is placed on a portion of the elastic membrane to insure that the uncoupled membrane is exactly controllable. The main result is that if the density of the fluid is sufficiently small, then the coupled system is exactly controllable....
This paper deals with a finite element method to solve fluid-structure
interaction problems.
More precisely it concerns the numerical computation of harmonic
hydroelastic vibrations under gravity.
It is based on a displacement formulation for both the fluid and the solid.
Gravity effects are included on the free surface of the fluid as well
as on the liquid-solid interface.
The pressure of the fluid is used as a variable for the theoretical
analysis leading to a well posed mixed linear eigenvalue...
In this paper one considers the linearized problem to determine the movement of an ideal heavy fluid contained in an unbounded container withelastic walls. As initial data one knows the movement of both the bottom and the free surface of the fluid and also the strength of certain perturbation, strong enough to take the bottom out of its rest state. One important point to be considered regards the influence of the bottom’s geometry on the propagation of superficial waves. This problem has been already...
In this work three branches of Immersed Boundary Methods (IBM) are described and validated for incompressible aerodynamics and fluid-structure interactions. These three approaches are: Cut Cell method, Vortex-Penalization method and Forcing method. The first two techniques are validated for external bluff-body flow around a circular obstacle. The last one is used to predict the deformations of an elastic membrane immersed in a fluid. The paper confirms the ability of this family of numerical schemes...
The paper is concerned with the numerical solution of interaction of compressible flow and a vibrating airfoil with two degrees of freedom, which can rotate around an elastic axis and oscillate in the vertical direction. Compressible flow is described by the Navier-Stokes equations written in the ALE form. This system is discretized by the semi-implicit discontinuous Galerkin finite element method (DGFEM) and coupled with the solution of ordinary differential equations describing the airfoil motion....
We are interested by the three-dimensional coupling between an incompressible fluid and a rigid body. The fluid is modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations, while the solid satisfies the Newton's laws. In the main result of the paper we prove that, with the help of a distributed control, we can drive the fluid and structure velocities to zero and the solid to a reference position provided that the initial velocities are small enough and the initial position of the structure is close to the reference...
This paper is devoted to the study of a coupled system which consists of a wave equation and a heat equation coupled through a transmission condition along a steady interface. This system is a linearized model for fluid-structure interaction introduced by Rauch, Zhang and Zuazua for a simple transmission condition and by Zhang and Zuazua for a natural transmission condition. Using an abstract theorem of Burq and a new Carleman estimate proved near the interface, we complete the results obtained...

The aim of this work is to deduce the existence of solution of a coupled problem arising in elastohydrodynamic lubrication. The lubricant pressure and concentration are modelled by Reynolds equation, jointly with the free-boundary Elrod-Adams model in order to take into account cavitation phenomena. The bearing deformation is solution of Koiter model for thin shells. The existence of solution to the variational problem presents some difficulties: the coupled character of the equations, the nonlinear...
