PDE-constrained optimization of time-dependent 3D electromagnetic induction heating by alternating voltages

Fredi Tröltzsch, Irwin Yousept (2012)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

This paper is concerned with a PDE-constrained optimization problem of induction heating, where the state equations consist of 3D time-dependent heat equations coupled with 3D time-harmonic eddy current equations. The control parameters are given by finite real numbers representing applied alternating voltages which enter the eddy current equations via impressed current. The optimization problem is to find optimal voltages so that, under certain constraints on the voltages and the temperature, a...

Solvability of a first order system in three-dimensional non-smooth domains

Michal Křížek, Pekka Neittaanmäki (1985)

Aplikace matematiky

A system of first order partial differential equations is studied which is defined by the divergence and rotation operators in a bounded nonsmooth domain Ω 𝐑 3 . On the boundary δ Ω , the vanishing normal component is prescribed. A variational formulation is given and its solvability is investigated.

Static electromagnetic fields in monotone media

Rainer Picard (1992)

Banach Center Publications

The paper considers the static Maxwell system for a Lipschitz domain with perfectly conducting boundary. Electric and magnetic permeability ε and μ are allowed to be monotone and Lipschitz continuous functions of the electromagnetic field. The existence theory is developed in the framework of the theory of monotone operators.

Visualisation of the electromagnetic vector fields

Bartoň, Stanislav (2023)

Programs and Algorithms of Numerical Mathematics

Modern computer algebra software can be used to visualize vector fields. One of the most used is the Maple program. This program is used to visualize two and three-dimensional vector fields. The possibilities of plotting direction vectors, lines of force, equipotential curves and the method of colouring the surface area for two-dimensional cases are shown step by step. For three-dimensional arrays, these methods are applied to various slices of three-dimensional space, such as a plane or a cylindrical...

Which electric fields are realizable in conducting materials?

Marc Briane, Graeme W. Milton, Andrejs Treibergs (2014)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

In this paper we study the realizability of a given smooth periodic gradient field ∇u defined in Rd, in the sense of finding when one can obtain a matrix conductivity σ such that σ∇u is a divergence free current field. The construction is shown to be always possible locally in Rd provided that ∇u is non-vanishing. This condition is also necessary in dimension two but not in dimension three. In fact the realizability may fail for non-regular gradient fields, and in general the conductivity cannot...
