Uniformization and anti-uniformization properties of ladder systems

Todd Eisworth, Gary Gruenhage, Oleg Pavlov, Paul Szeptycki (2004)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Natural weakenings of uniformizability of a ladder system on ω₁ are considered. It is shown that even assuming CH all the properties may be distinct in a strong sense. In addition, these properties are studied in conjunction with other properties inconsistent with full uniformizability, which we call anti-uniformization properties. The most important conjunction considered is the uniformization property we call countable metacompactness and the anti-uniformization property we call thinness. The...

Uniformly completely Ramsey sets

Udayan Darji (1993)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Galvin and Prikry defined completely Ramsey sets and showed that the class of completely Ramsey sets forms a σ-algebra containing open sets. However, they used two definitions of completely Ramsey. We show that they are not equivalent as they remarked. One of these definitions is a more uniform property than the other. We call it the uniformly completely Ramsey property. We show that some of the results of Ellentuck, Silver, Brown and Aniszczyk concerning completely Ramsey sets also hold for uniformly...

Uniformly Convex Metric Spaces

Martin Kell (2014)

Analysis and Geometry in Metric Spaces

In this paper the theory of uniformly convex metric spaces is developed. These spaces exhibit a generalized convexity of the metric from a fixed point. Using a (nearly) uniform convexity property a simple proof of reflexivity is presented and a weak topology of such spaces is analyzed. This topology, called coconvex topology, agrees with the usually weak topology in Banach spaces. An example of a CAT(0)-space with weak topology which is not Hausdorff is given. In the end existence and uniqueness...

Uniformly convex spaces, bead spaces, and equivalence conditions

Lech Pasicki (2011)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

The notion of a metric bead space was introduced in the preceding paper (L. Pasicki: Bead spaces and fixed point theorems, Topology Appl., vol. 156 (2009), 1811–1816) and it was proved there that every bounded set in such a space (provided the space is complete) has a unique central point. The bead spaces themselves can be considered in particular as natural extensions of convex sets in uniformly convex spaces. It appears that normed bead spaces are identical with uniformly convex spaces. On the...

Uniformly Movable Categories and Uniform Movability of Topological Spaces

P. S. Gevorgyan, I. Pop (2007)

Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Mathematics

A categorical generalization of the notion of movability from inverse systems and shape theory was given by the first author who defined the notion of movable category and used it to interpret the movability of topological spaces. In this paper the authors define the notion of uniformly movable category and prove that a topological space is uniformly movable in the sense of shape theory if and only if its comma category in the homotopy category HTop over the subcategory HPol of polyhedra is uniformly...

Uniformly recurrent sequences and minimal Cantor omega-limit sets

Lori Alvin (2015)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We investigate the structure of kneading sequences that belong to unimodal maps for which the omega-limit set of the turning point is a minimal Cantor set. We define a scheme that can be used to generate uniformly recurrent and regularly recurrent infinite sequences over a finite alphabet. It is then shown that if the kneading sequence of a unimodal map can be generated from one of these schemes, then the omega-limit set of the turning point must be a minimal Cantor set.
