On prolongation of higher order connections

Miroslav Doupovec, Włodzimierz M. Mikulski (2011)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

We describe all bundle functors G admitting natural operators transforming rth order holonomic connections on a fibered manifold Y → M into rth order holonomic connections on GY → M. For second order holonomic connections we classify all such natural operators.

On prolongations of projectable connections

Jan Kurek, Włodzimierz M. Mikulski (2011)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

We extend the concept of r-order connections on fibred manifolds to the one of (r,s,q)-order projectable connections on fibred-fibred manifolds, where r,s,q are arbitrary non-negative integers with s ≥ r ≤ q. Similarly to the fibred manifold case, given a bundle functor F of order r on (m₁,m₂,n₁,n₂)-dimensional fibred-fibred manifolds Y → M, we construct a general connection ℱ(Γ,Λ):FY → J¹FY on FY → M from a projectable general (i.e. (1,1,1)-order) connection Γ : Y J 1 , 1 , 1 Y on Y → M by means of an (r,r,r)-order...

On quasijet bundles

Tomáš, Jiří (2000)

Proceedings of the 19th Winter School "Geometry and Physics"

In this paper a Weil approach to quasijets is discussed. For given manifolds M and N , a quasijet with source x M and target y N is a mapping T x r M T y r N which is a vector homomorphism for each one of the r vector bundle structures of the iterated tangent bundle T r [A. Dekrét, Casopis Pest. Mat. 111, No. 4, 345-352 (1986; Zbl 0611.58004)]. Let us denote by Q J r ( M , N ) the bundle of quasijets from M to N ; the space J ˜ r ( M , N ) of non-holonomic r -jets from M to N is embeded into Q J r ( M , N ) . On the other hand, the bundle Q T m r N of ( m , r ) -quasivelocities...

Séminaire de théorie spectrale et géométrie

In this paper we survey some recent results on rank one symmetric space.

On recent progress for the stochastic Navier Stokes equations

Jonathan Mattingly (2003)

Journées équations aux dérivées partielles

We give an overview of the ideas central to some recent developments in the ergodic theory of the stochastically forced Navier Stokes equations and other dissipative stochastic partial differential equations. Since our desire is to make the core ideas clear, we will mostly work with a specific example : the stochastically forced Navier Stokes equations. To further clarify ideas, we will also examine in detail a toy problem. A few general theorems are given. Spatial regularity, ergodicity, exponential...

On Schrödinger maps from T 1 to  S 2

Robert L. Jerrard, Didier Smets (2012)

Annales scientifiques de l'École Normale Supérieure

We prove an estimate for the difference of two solutions of the Schrödinger map equation for maps from T 1 to  S 2 . This estimate yields some continuity properties of the flow map for the topology of  L 2 ( T 1 , S 2 ) , provided one takes its quotient by the continuous group action of  T 1 given by translations. We also prove that without taking this quotient, for any t > 0 the flow map at time t is discontinuous as a map from 𝒞 ( T 1 , S 2 ) , equipped with the weak topology of  H 1 / 2 , to the space of distributions ( 𝒞 ( T 1 , 3 ) ) * . The argument relies in an essential...

On second order Hamiltonian systems

Dana Smetanová (2006)

Archivum Mathematicum

The aim of the paper is to announce some recent results concerning Hamiltonian theory. The case of second order Euler–Lagrange form non-affine in the second derivatives is studied. Its related second order Hamiltonian systems and geometrical correspondence between solutions of Hamilton and Euler–Lagrange equations are found.

On second order Thom-Boardman singularities

László M. Fehér, Balázs Kőműves (2006)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We derive closed formulas for the Thom polynomials of two families of second order Thom-Boardman singularities Σ i , j . The formulas are given as linear combinations of Schur polynomials, and all coefficients are nonnegative.
