Some limit behavior for linear combinations of order statistics

Yu Miao, Mengyao Ma (2021)

Kybernetika

In the present paper, we establish the moderate and large deviations for the linear combinations of uniform order statistics. As applications, the moderate and large deviations for the k -th order statistics from uniform distribution, Gini mean difference statistics and the k -th order statistics from general continuous distribution are obtained.

Some methods of constructing kernels in statistical learning

Tomasz Górecki, Maciej Łuczak (2010)

Discussiones Mathematicae Probability and Statistics

This paper is a collection of numerous methods and results concerning a design of kernel functions. It gives a short overview of methods of building kernels in metric spaces, especially R n and S n . However we also present a new theory. Introducing kernels was motivated by searching for non-linear patterns by using linear functions in a feature space created using a non-linear feature map.

Some monotonicity and limit results for the regularised incomplete gamma function

Wojciech Chojnacki (2008)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Letting P(u,x) denote the regularised incomplete gamma function, it is shown that for each α ≥ 0, P(x,x+α) decreases as x increases on the positive real semi-axis, and P(x,x+α) converges to 1/2 as x tends to infinity. The statistical significance of these results is explored.

Some New Random Effect Models for Correlated Binary Responses

Fodé Tounkara, Louis-Paul Rivest (2014)

Dependence Modeling

Exchangeable copulas are used to model an extra-binomial variation in Bernoulli experiments with a variable number of trials. Maximum likelihood inference procedures for the intra-cluster correlation are constructed for several copula families. The selection of a particular model is carried out using the Akaike information criterion (AIC). Profile likelihood confidence intervals for the intra-cluster correlation are constructed and their performance are assessed in a simulation experiment. The sensitivity...

Some observations on the constructions of chemical balance weighing designs

Ratnakaram Nava Mohan, Bronisław Ceranka, Sanpei Kageyama (2001)

Discussiones Mathematicae Probability and Statistics

The construction of some optimum chemical balance weighing designs from affine μ-resolvable balanced incomplete block (BIB) designs are discussed in the light of a characterization theorem on the parameters of affine μ-resolvable BIB designs as given by Mohan and Kageyama (1982), for the sake of practical use of researchers who need some selective designs for the construction of chemical balance weighing designs.

Some Parameter Estimation Issues in Functional-Structural Plant Modelling

P.-H. Cournède, V. Letort, A. Mathieu, M. Z. Kang, S. Lemaire, S. Trevezas, F. Houllier, P. de Reffye (2011)

Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena

The development of functional-structural plant models has opened interesting perspectives for a better understanding of plant growth as well as for potential applications in breeding or decision aid in farm management. Parameterization of such models is however a difficult issue due to the complexity of the involved biological processes and the interactions between these processes. The estimation of parameters from experimental data by inverse methods...
