Effective saturation for composite porous media

Micol Amar, Roberto Gianni (2003)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

This paper is devoted to the study of the homogenization of a porous medium, composed of different materials arranged in a periodic structure. This provides the profile of the saturation function for the limit material.

Equivalence between lowest-order mixed finite element and multi-point finite volume methods on simplicial meshes

Martin Vohralík (2006)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

We consider the lowest-order Raviart–Thomas mixed finite element method for second-order elliptic problems on simplicial meshes in two and three space dimensions. This method produces saddle-point problems for scalar and flux unknowns. We show how to easily and locally eliminate the flux unknowns, which implies the equivalence between this method and a particular multi-point finite volume scheme, without any approximate numerical integration. The matrix of the final linear system is sparse, positive...

Estimates of weighted Hölder norms of the solutions to a parabolic boundary value problem in an initially degenerate domain

Antonio Fasano, Vsevolod Solonnikov (2002)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

A-priori estimates in weighted Hölder norms are obtained for the solutions of a one- dimensional boundary value problem for the heat equation in a domain degenerating at time t = 0 and with boundary data involving simultaneously the first order time derivative and the spatial gradient.

Existence and uniqueness of solutions for a degenerate quasilinear parabolic problem.

Maurizio Badii (1994)

Publicacions Matemàtiques

We consider the following quasilinear parabolic equation of degenerate type with convection term ut = φ (u)xx + b(u)x in (-L,0) x (0,T). We solve the associate initial-boundary data problem, with nonlinear flux conditions. This problem describes the evaporation of an incompressible fluid from a homogeneous porous media. The nonlinear condition in x = 0 means that the flow of fluid leaving the porous media depends on variable meteorological conditions and in a nonlinear manner on u. In x = -L we...

Extension of a regularity result concerning the dam problem

Gianni Gilardi, Stephan Luckhaus (1991)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

One proves, in the case of piecewise smooth coefficients, that the time derivative of the solution of the so called dam problem is a measure, extending the result proved by the same authors in the case of Lipschitz continuous coefficients.
