Let $𝔞\subseteq ℂ[x_1,...,x_n]$ be a monomial ideal and $𝒥\left({𝔞}^c\right)$ the multiplier ideal of $𝔞$ with coefficient $c$. Then $𝒥\left({𝔞}^c\right)$ is also a monomial ideal of $ℂ[x_1,...,x_n]$, and the equality $𝒥\left({𝔞}^c\right)=𝔞$ implies that $0<c<n+1$. We mainly discuss the problem when $𝒥\left(𝔞\right)=𝔞$ or $𝒥\left({𝔞}^{n+1-\epsilon }\right)=𝔞$ for all $0<\epsilon <1$. It is proved that if $𝒥\left(𝔞\right)=𝔞$ then $𝔞$ is principal, and if $𝒥\left({𝔞}^{n+1-\epsilon }\right)=𝔞$ holds for all $0<\epsilon <1$ then $𝔞=(x_1,...,x_n)$. One global result is also obtained. Let $\widetilde{𝔞}$ be the ideal sheaf on ${\mathbb{P}}^{n-1}$ associated with $𝔞$. Then it is proved that the equality $𝒥\left(\widetilde{𝔞}\right)=\widetilde{𝔞}$ implies that $\widetilde{𝔞}$ is principal.

In this paper, we examine a natural question concerning the divisors of the polynomial $x^n-1$: “How often does $x^n-1$ have a divisor of every degree between $1$ and $n$?” In a previous paper, we considered the situation when $x^n-1$ is factored in $\mathbb{Z}\left[x\right]$. In this paper, we replace $\mathbb{Z}\left[x\right]$ with ${𝔽}_p\left[x\right]$, where $p$ is an arbitrary-but-fixed prime. We also consider those $n$ where this condition holds for all $p$.

Let $H$ be a finite abelian group of odd order, $𝒟$ be its generalized dihedral group, i.e., the semidirect product of $C_2$ acting on $H$ by inverting elements, where $C_2$ is the cyclic group of order two. Let $\Omega \left(𝒟\right)$ be the Burnside ring of $𝒟$, $\Delta \left(𝒟\right)$ be the augmentation ideal of $\Omega \left(𝒟\right)$. Denote by ${\Delta }^n\left(𝒟\right)$ and $Q_n\left(𝒟\right)$ the $n$th power of $\Delta \left(𝒟\right)$ and the $n$th consecutive quotient group ${\Delta }^n\left(𝒟\right)/{\Delta }^{n+1}\left(𝒟\right)$, respectively. This paper provides an explicit $\mathbb{Z}$-basis for ${\Delta }^n\left(𝒟\right)$ and determines the isomorphism class of $Q_n\left(𝒟\right)$ for each positive integer $n$.

Let $X$ be a complex Fano manifold of arbitrary dimension, and $D$ a prime divisor in $X$. We consider the image ${𝒩}_1(D,X)$ of ${𝒩}_1\left(D\right)$ in ${𝒩}_1\left(X\right)$ under the natural push-forward of $1$-cycles. We show that ${\rho }_X-{\rho }_D\le codim{𝒩}_1(D,X)\le 8$. Moreover if $codim{𝒩}_1(D,X)\ge 3$, then either $X\cong S\times T$ where $S$ is a Del Pezzo surface, or $codim{𝒩}_1(D,X)=3$ and $X$ has a fibration in Del Pezzo surfaces onto a Fano manifold $T$ such that ${\rho }_X-{\rho }_T=4$.

Given a measurable set $A\subset {ℝ}^n$ of positive measure, it is not difficult to show that $|A+A|=\left|2A\right|$ if and only if $A$ is equal to its convex hull minus a set of measure zero. We investigate the stability of this statement: If $\left(\right|A+A|-|2A\left|\right)/\left|A\right|$ is small, is $A$ close to its convex hull? Our main result is an explicit control, in arbitrary dimension, on the measure of the difference between $A$ and its convex hull in terms of $\left(\right|A+A|-|2A\left|\right)/\left|A\right|$.

We characterise the boundedness of the $H^{\infty }$ calculus of a sectorial operator in terms of dilation theorems. We show e. g. that if $-A$ generates a bounded analytic $C_0$ semigroup $\left(T_t\right)$ on a UMD space, then the $H^{\infty }$ calculus of $A$ is bounded if and only if $\left(T_t\right)$ has a dilation to a bounded group on $L^2([0,1],X)$. This generalises a Hilbert space result of C.LeMerdy. If $X$ is an $L^p$ space we can choose another $L^p$ space in place of $L^2([0,1],X)$.
