Truncations of Gauss' square exponent theorem

Ji-Cai Liu, Shan-Shan Zhao (2022)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

We establish two truncations of Gauss’ square exponent theorem and a finite extension of Euler’s identity. For instance, we prove that for any positive integer n , k = 0 n ( - 1 ) k 2 n - k k ( q ; q 2 ) n - k q k + 1 2 = k = - n n ( - 1 ) k q k 2 , where n m = k = 1 m 1 - q n - k + 1 1 - q k and ( a ; q ) n = k = 0 n - 1 ( 1 - a q k ) .

On a set of asymptotic densities

Pavel Jahoda, Monika Jahodová (2008)

Acta Mathematica Universitatis Ostraviensis

Similarity:

Let = { p 1 , p 2 , , p i , } be the set of prime numbers (or more generally a set of pairwise co-prime elements). Let us denote A p a , b = { p a n + b m n { 0 } ; m , p does not divide m } , where a , b { 0 } . Then for arbitrary finite set B , B holds d p i B A p i a i , b i = p i B d A p i a i , b i , and d A p i a i , b i = 1 p i b i 1 - 1 p i 1 - 1 p i a i . If we denote A = 1 p b 1 - 1 p 1 - 1 p a p , a , b { 0 } , where is the set of all prime numbers, then for closure of set A holds cl A = A B { 0 , 1 } , where B = 1 p b 1 - 1 p p , b { 0 } .

Universal functions on nonsimply connected domains

Antonios D. Melas (2001)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Similarity:

We establish certain properties for the class 𝒰 ( Ω , ζ 0 ) of universal functions in Ω with respect to the center ζ 0 Ω , for certain types of connected non-simply connected domains Ω . In the case where / Ω is discrete we prove that this class is G δ -dense in H ( Ω ) , depends on the center ζ 0 and that the analog of Kahane’s conjecture does not hold.

Inequalities for the arithmetical functions of Euler and Dedekind

Horst Alzer, Man Kam Kwong (2020)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

For positive integers n , Euler’s phi function and Dedekind’s psi function are given by φ ( n ) = n p n p prime 1 - 1 p and ψ ( n ) = n p n p prime 1 + 1 p , respectively. We prove that for all n 2 we have 1 - 1 n n - 1 1 + 1 n n + 1 φ ( n ) n φ ( n ) ψ ( n ) n ψ ( n ) and φ ( n ) n ψ ( n ) ψ ( n ) n φ ( n ) 1 - 1 n n + 1 1 + 1 n n - 1 . The sign of equality holds if and only if n is a prime. The first inequality refines results due to Atanassov (2011) and Kannan & Srikanth (2013).

Journal de théorie des nombres de Bordeaux

Similarity:

Let p be a prime number, p the field of p -adic numbers and p the completion of the algebraic closure of p . In this paper we obtain a representation theorem for rigid analytic functions on 𝐏 1 ( p ) C ( t , ϵ ) which are equivariant with respect to the Galois group G = G a l c o n t ( p / p ) , where t is a lipschitzian element of p and C ( t , ϵ ) denotes the ϵ -neighborhood of the G -orbit of t .

Let f be a continuous function on I and A , B 𝒮𝒜 I H , the convex set of selfadjoint operators with spectra in I . If A B and f , as an operator function, is Gateaux differentiable on [ A , B ] : = ( 1 - t ) A + t B t 0 , 1 , while p : 0 , 1 is Lebesgue integrable, then we have the inequalities 0 1 p τ f 1 - τ A + τ B d τ - 0 1 p τ d τ 0 1 f 1 - τ A + τ B d τ 0 1 τ ( 1 - τ ) | τ 1 p s d s 1 - τ - 0 τ p s d s τ | f 1 - τ A + τ B B - A d τ 1 4 0 1 | τ 1 p s d s 1 - τ - 0 τ p s d s τ | f 1 - τ A + τ B B - A d τ , where f is the Gateaux derivative of f .

Dynamic behavior of vector solutions of a class of 2-D neutral differential systems

Mathematica Bohemica

Similarity:

This work deals with the analysis pertaining some dynamic behavior of vector solutions of first order two-dimensional neutral delay differential systems of the form d d t u ( t ) + p u ( t - τ ) v ( t ) + p v ( t - τ ) = a b c d u ( t - α ) v ( t - β ) . The effort has been made to study d d t x ( t ) - p ( t ) h 1 ( x ( t - τ ) ) y ( t ) - p ( t ) h 2 ( y ( t - τ ) ) + a ( t ) b ( t ) c ( t ) d ( t ) f 1 ( x ( t - α ) ) f 2 ( y ( t - β ) ) = 0 , where p , a , b , c , d , h 1 , h 2 , f 1 , f 2 C ( , ) ; α , β , τ + . We verify our results with the examples.

Construction techniques for some thin sets in duals of compact abelian groups

D. J. Hajela (1986)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

Similarity:

Various techniques are presented for constructing Λ (p) sets which are not Λ ( p + ϵ ) for all ϵ > 0 . The main result is that there is a Λ (4) set in the dual of any compact abelian group which is not Λ ( 4 + ϵ ) for all ϵ > 0 . Along the way to proving this, new constructions are given in dual groups in which constructions were already known of Λ (p) not Λ ( p + ϵ ) sets, for certain values of p . The main new constructions in specific dual groups are: – there is a Λ (2k) set which is not Λ ( 2 k + ϵ ) in Z ( 2 ) Z ( 2 ) for all 2 k , k N and...
