Cohomology rings of Artin groups

Claudia Landi (2000)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

In this paper integer cohomology rings of Artin groups associated with exceptional groups are determined. Computations have been carried out by using an effective method for calculation of cup product in cellular cohomology which we introduce here. Actually, our method works in general for any finite regular complex with identifications, the regular complex being geometrically realized by a compact orientable manifold, possibly with boundary.

Connected covers and Neisendorfer's localization theorem

C. McGibbon, J. Møller (1997)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Our point of departure is J. Neisendorfer's localization theorem which reveals a subtle connection between some simply connected finite complexes and their connected covers. We show that even though the connected covers do not forget that they came from a finite complex their homotopy-theoretic properties are drastically different from those of finite complexes. For instance, connected covers of finite complexes may have uncountable genus or nontrivial SNT sets, their Lusternik-Schnirelmann category...

Finite-dimensional spaces in resolving classes

Jeffrey Strom (2012)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Using the theory of resolving classes, we show that if X is a CW complex of finite type such that m a p ( X , S 2 n + 1 ) for all sufficiently large n, then map⁎(X,K) ∼ ∗ for every simply-connected finite-dimensional CW complex K; and under mild hypotheses on π₁(X), the same conclusion holds for all finite-dimensional complexes K. Since it is comparatively easy to prove the former condition for X = Bℤ/p (we give a proof in an appendix), this result can be applied to give a new, more elementary proof of the Sullivan conjecture....

G-functors, G-posets and homotopy decompositions of G-spaces

Stefan Jackowski, Jolanta Słomińska (2001)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We describe a unifying approach to a variety of homotopy decompositions of classifying spaces, mainly of finite groups. For a group G acting on a poset W and an isotropy presheaf d:W → (G) we construct a natural G-map h o c o l i m d G / d ( - ) | W | which is a (non-equivariant) homotopy equivalence, hence h o c o l i m d E G × G F d E G × G | W | is a homotopy equivalence. Different choices of G-posets and isotropy presheaves on them lead to homotopy decompositions of classifying spaces. We analyze higher limits over the categories associated to isotropy presheaves...

Groupoïde fondamental et d'holonomie de certains feuilletages réguliers

María C. Lasso de la Vega (1989)

Publicacions Matemàtiques

Let M be a manifold with a regular foliation F. We recall the construction of the fundamental groupoid and the homotopy groupoid associated to F. We describe some interesting particular cases and give some glueing techniques. We characterize the cases where these groupoids are Hausdorff spaces. We study in particular both groupoids associated to foliations with Reeb components.
