A quasistatic contact problem with adhesion and friction for viscoelastic materials

Arezki Touzaline (2010)

Applicationes Mathematicae

We consider a mathematical model which describes the contact between a deformable body and a foundation. The contact is frictional and is modelled by a version of normal compliance condition and the associated Coulomb's law of dry friction in which adhesion of contact surfaces is taken into account. The evolution of the bonding field is described by a first order differential equation and the material's behaviour is modelled by a nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive law. We derive a variational formulation...

A quasistatic contact problem with unilateral constraint and slip-dependent friction

Arezki Touzaline (2015)

Applicationes Mathematicae

We consider a mathematical model of a quasistatic contact between an elastic body and an obstacle. The contact is modelled with unilateral constraint and normal compliance, associated to a version of Coulomb's law of dry friction where the coefficient of friction depends on the slip displacement. We present a weak formulation of the problem and establish an existence result. The proofs employ a time-discretization method, compactness and lower semicontinuity arguments.

A quasistatic unilateral and frictional contact problem with adhesion for elastic materials

Arezki Touzaline (2009)

Applicationes Mathematicae

We consider a quasistatic contact problem between a linear elastic body and a foundation. The contact is modelled with the Signorini condition and the associated non-local Coulomb friction law in which the adhesion of the contact surfaces is taken into account. The evolution of the bonding field is described by a first order differential equation. We derive a variational formulation of the mechanical problem and prove existence of a weak solution if the friction coefficient is sufficiently small....

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

The purpose of this paper is to provide a priori error estimates on the approximation of contact conditions in the framework of the eXtended Finite-Element Method (XFEM) for two dimensional elastic bodies. This method allows to perform finite-element computations on cracked domains by using meshes of the non-cracked domain. We consider a stabilized Lagrange multiplier method whose particularity is that no discrete inf-sup condition is needed in the convergence analysis. The contact condition is...

A study of a unilateral and adhesive contact problem with normal compliance

Arezki Touzaline (2014)

Applicationes Mathematicae

The aim of this paper is to study a quasistatic unilateral contact problem between an elastic body and a foundation. The constitutive law is nonlinear and the contact is modelled with a normal compliance condition associated to a unilateral constraint and Coulomb's friction law. The adhesion between contact surfaces is taken into account and is modelled with a surface variable, the bonding field, whose evolution is described by a first-order differential equation. We establish a variational formulation...

A three-field augmented Lagrangian formulation of unilateral contact problems with cohesive forces

David Doyen, Alexandre Ern, Serge Piperno (2010)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

We investigate unilateral contact problems with cohesive forces, leading to the constrained minimization of a possibly nonconvex functional. We analyze the mathematical structure of the minimization problem. The problem is reformulated in terms of a three-field augmented Lagrangian, and sufficient conditions for the existence of a local saddle-point are derived. Then, we derive and analyze mixed finite element approximations to the stationarity conditions of the three-field augmented Lagrangian....

A unilateral boundary-value problem for the rod

Miroslav Bosák (1988)

Aplikace matematiky

A unilateral boundary-value condition at the left end of a simply supported rod is considered. Variational and (equivalent) classical formulations are introduced and all solutions to the classical problem are calculated in an explicit form. Formulas for the energies corresponding to the solutions are also given. The problem is solved and energies of the solutions are compared in the pertubed as well as the unperturbed cases.

A unilateral contact problem with slip-dependent friction

Arezki Touzaline (2016)

Applicationes Mathematicae

We consider a mathematical model which describes a static contact between a nonlinear elastic body and an obstacle. The contact is modelled with Signorini's conditions, associated with a slip-dependent version of Coulomb's nonlocal friction law. We derive a variational formulation and prove its unique weak solvability. We also study the finite element approximation of the problem and obtain an optimal error estimate under extra regularity for the solution. Finally, we establish the convergence of...

A viscoelastic contact problem with normal damped response and friction

Annales Polonici Mathematici

We study an evolution problem which describes the quasistatic contact of a viscoelastic body with a foundation. We model the contact with normal damped response and a local friction law. We derive a variational formulation of the model and we establish the existence of a unique weak solution to the problem. The proof is based on monotone operators and fixed point arguments. We also establish the continuous dependence of the solution on the contact boundary conditions.

A Viscoelastic Frictionless Contact Problem with Adhesion

Arezki Touzaline (2015)

Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Mathematics

We consider a mathematical model which describes the equilibrium between a viscoelastic body in frictionless contact with an obstacle. The contact is modelled with normal compliance, associated with Signorini's conditions and adhesion. The adhesion is modelled with a surface variable, the bonding field, whose evolution is described by a first-order differential equation. We establish a variational formulation of the mechanical problem and prove the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution....

An optimal algorithm with Barzilai-Borwein steplength and superrelaxation for QPQC problem

Pospíšil, Lukáš (2013)

Programs and Algorithms of Numerical Mathematics

We propose a modification of MPGP algorithm for solving minimizing problem of strictly convex quadratic function subject to separable spherical constraints. This active set based algorithm explores the faces by the conjugate gradients and changes the active sets and active variables by the gradient projection with the Barzilai-Borwein steplength. We show how to use the algorithm for the solution of separable and equality constraints. The power of our modification is demonstrated on the solution...
