A note on the pp conjecture for sheaves of spaces of orderings

Paweł Gładki (2016)

Communications in Mathematics

In this note we provide a direct and simple proof of a result previously obtained by Astier stating that the class of spaces of orderings for which the pp conjecture holds true is closed under sheaves over Boolean spaces.

A note on the ramification of torsion points lying on curves of genus at least two

Damian Rössler (2010)

Journal de Théorie des Nombres de Bordeaux

Let C be a curve of genus g 2 defined over the fraction field K of a complete discrete valuation ring R with algebraically closed residue field. Suppose that char ( K ) = 0 and that the characteristic p of the residue field is not 2 . Suppose that the Jacobian Jac ( C ) has semi-stable reduction over R . Embed C in Jac ( C ) using a K -rational point. We show that the coordinates of the torsion points lying on C lie in the unique tamely ramified quadratic extension of the field generated over K by the coordinates of the p -torsion...

A note on the torsion of the Jacobians of superelliptic curves y q = x p + a

Tomasz Jędrzejak (2016)

Banach Center Publications

This article is a short version of the paper published in J. Number Theory 145 (2014) but we add new results and a brief discussion about the Torsion Conjecture. Consider the family of superelliptic curves (over ℚ) C q , p , a : y q = x p + a , and its Jacobians J q , p , a , where 2 < q < p are primes. We give the full (resp. partial) characterization of the torsion part of J 3 , 5 , a ( ) (resp. J q , p , a ( ) ). The main tools are computations of the zeta function of C 3 , 5 , a (resp. C q , p , a ) over l for primes l ≡ 1,2,4,8,11 (mod 15) (resp. for primes l ≡ -1 (mod qp))...

A note on the transcendence of infinite products

Jaroslav Hančl, Ondřej Kolouch, Simona Pulcerová, Jan Štěpnička (2012)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

The paper deals with several criteria for the transcendence of infinite products of the form n = 1 [ b n α a n ] / b n α a n where α > 1 is a positive algebraic number having a conjugate α * such that α | α * | > 1 , { a n } n = 1 and { b n } n = 1 are two sequences of positive integers with some specific conditions. The proofs are based on the recent theorem of Corvaja and Zannier which relies on the Subspace Theorem (P. Corvaja, U. Zannier: On the rational approximation to the powers of an algebraic number: solution of two problems of Mahler and Mendès France, Acta...

A note on the weighted Khintchine-Groshev Theorem

Mumtaz Hussain, Tatiana Yusupova (2014)

Journal de Théorie des Nombres de Bordeaux

Let W ( m , n ; ψ ̲ ) denote the set of ψ 1 , ... , ψ n –approximable points in m n . The classical Khintchine–Groshev theorem assumes a monotonicity condition on the approximating functions ψ ̲ . Removing monotonicity from the Khintchine–Groshev theorem is attributed to different authors for different cases of m and n . It can not be removed for m = n = 1 as Duffin–Schaeffer provided the counter example. We deal with the only remaining case m = 2 and thereby remove all unnecessary conditions from the Khintchine–Groshev theorem.
