Consider a family of integral complex locally planar curves whose relative Hilbert scheme of points is smooth. The decomposition theorem of Beilinson, Bernstein, and Deligne asserts that the pushforward of the constant sheaf on the relative Hilbert scheme splits as a direct sum of shifted semisimple perverse sheaves. We will show that no summand is supported in positive codimension. It follows that the perverse filtration on the cohomology of the compactified Jacobian of an integral plane curve...
We survey counterexamples to Hilbert’s Fourteenth Problem,
beginning with those of Nagata in the late 1950s, and including recent
counterexamples in low dimension constructed with locally nilpotent derivations.
Historical framework and pertinent references are provided. We also include
8 important open questions.
This is a survey written in an expositional style on the topic of symplectic singularities and symplectic resolutions.
Consider a transitive definable action of a Lie group G on a definable manifold M. Given two (locally) definable subsets A and B of M, we prove that the dimension of the intersection σ(A) ∩ B is not greater than the expected one for a generic σ ∈ G.
Let and be compact Riemann surfaces of genus , and let and be nonabelian reductive complex groups. If one component of the coarse moduli space for semistable principal –bundles over is isomorphic to another component , then is isomorphic to .
We study the Schubert calculus on the space of d-dimensional linear subspaces of a smooth n-dimensional quadric lying in the projective space. Following Hodge and Pedoe we develop the intersection theory of this space in a purely combinatorial manner. We prove in particular that if a triple intersection of Schubert cells on this space is nonempty then a certain combinatorial relation holds among the Schubert symbols involved, similar to the classical one. We also show when these necessary conditions...
We relate some features of Bruhat-Tits buildings and their compactifications to tropical geometry. If G is a semisimple group over a suitable non-Archimedean field, the stabilizers of points in the Bruhat-Tits building of G and in some of its compactifications are described by tropical linear algebra. The compactifications we consider arise from algebraic representations of G. We show that the fan which is used to compactify an apartment in this theory is given by the weight polytope of the representation...
