On convolution squares of singular measures

Sanjiv K. Gupta, Kathryn E. Hare (2004)

Colloquium Mathematicae

We prove that for every compact, connected group G there is a singular measure μ such that the Fourier series of μ*μ converges uniformly on G. Our results extend the earlier results of Saeki and Dooley-Gupta.

On Haar null sets

Sławomir Solecki (1996)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We prove that in Polish, abelian, non-locally-compact groups the family of Haar null sets of Christensen does not fulfil the countable chain condition, that is, there exists an uncountable family of pairwise disjoint universally measurable sets which are not Haar null. (Dougherty, answering an old question of Christensen, showed earlier that this was the case for some Polish, abelian, non-locally-compact groups.) Thus we obtain the following characterization of locally compact, abelian groups: Let...

On Riesz product measures ; mutual absolute continuity and singularity

Shelby J. Kilmer, Sadahiro Saeki (1988)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

We give some criteria for mutual absolute continuity and for singularity of Riesz product measures on locally compact abelian groups. The first section gives the definition of such a measure which is more general than the usual definition. The second section provides three sufficient conditions for one Riesz product measure to be absolutely continuous with respect to another. One of our results contains a theorem of Brown-Moran-Ritter as a special case. The final section deals with random Riesz...
