Representing and absolutely representing systems

V. Kadets, Yu. Korobeĭnik (1992)

Studia Mathematica

We introduce various classes of representing systems in linear topological spaces and investigate their connections in spaces with different topological properties. Let us cite a typical result of the paper. If H is a weakly separated sequentially separable linear topological space then there is a representing system in H which is not absolutely representing.

Representing measures for the disc algebra and for the ball algebra

Raymond Brummelhuis, Jan Wiegerinck (1991)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

We consider the set of representing measures at 0 for the disc and the ball algebra. The structure of the extreme elements of these sets is investigated. We give particular attention to representing measures for the 2-ball algebra which arise by lifting representing measures for the disc algebra.

Representing non-weakly compact operators

Manuel González, Eero Saksman, Hans-Olav Tylli (1995)

Studia Mathematica

For each S ∈ L(E) (with E a Banach space) the operator R(S) ∈ L(E**/E) is defined by R(S)(x** + E) = S**x** + E(x** ∈ E**). We study mapping properties of the correspondence S → R(S), which provides a representation R of the weak Calkin algebra L(E)/W(E) (here W(E) denotes the weakly compact operators on E). Our results display strongly varying behaviour of R. For instance, there are no non-zero compact operators in Im(R) in the case of L 1 and C(0,1), but R(L(E)/W(E)) identifies isometrically with...

Reproducing kernels and Riccati equations

Harry Dym (2001)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

The purpose of this paper is to exhibit a connection between the Hermitian solutions of matrix Riccati equations and a class of finite dimensional reproducing kernel Krein spaces. This connection is then exploited to obtain minimal factorizations of rational matrix valued functions that are J-unitary on the imaginary axis in a natural way.

Resistance Conditions and Applications

Juha Kinnunen, Pilar Silvestre (2013)

Analysis and Geometry in Metric Spaces

This paper studies analytic aspects of so-called resistance conditions on metric measure spaces with a doubling measure. These conditions are weaker than the usually assumed Poincaré inequality, but however, they are sufficiently strong to imply several useful results in analysis on metric measure spaces. We show that under a perimeter resistance condition, the capacity of order one and the Hausdorff content of codimension one are comparable. Moreover, we have connections to the Sobolev inequality...
