Logarithmic concavity, unitarity and selfadjointness

Jan Stochel (2005)

Banach Center Publications

Isometric automorphisms of normed linear spaces are characterized by suitable concavity properties of powers of operators. Bounded selfadjoint operators in Hilbert spaces are described by parallel concavity properties of the exponential group. Unbounded infinitesimal generators of 𝓒₀-groups of Hilbert space operators having concavity properties are characterized as well.

Logarithmic Sobolev inequalities for inhomogeneous Markov Semigroups

Jean-François Collet, Florent Malrieu (2008)

ESAIM: Probability and Statistics

We investigate the dissipativity properties of a class of scalar second order parabolic partial differential equations with time-dependent coefficients. We provide explicit condition on the drift term which ensure that the relative entropy of one particular orbit with respect to some other one decreases to zero. The decay rate is obtained explicitly by the use of a Sobolev logarithmic inequality for the associated semigroup, which is derived by an adaptation of Bakry's Γ-calculus. As a byproduct,...

Log-majorizations and norm inequalities for exponential operators

Fumio Hiai (1997)

Banach Center Publications

Concise but self-contained reviews are given on theories of majorization and symmetrically normed ideals, including the proofs of the Lidskii-Wielandt and the Gelfand-Naimark theorems. Based on these reviews, we discuss logarithmic majorizations and norm inequalities of Golden-Thompson type and its complementary type for exponential operators on a Hilbert space. Furthermore, we obtain norm convergences for the exponential product formula as well as for that involving operator means.

Long time existence of solutions to 2d Navier-Stokes equations with heat convection

Jolanta Socała, Wojciech M. Zajączkowski (2009)

Applicationes Mathematicae

Global existence of regular solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations for (v,p) coupled with the heat convection equation for θ is proved in the two-dimensional case in a bounded domain. We assume the slip boundary conditions for velocity and the Neumann condition for temperature. First an appropriate estimate is shown and next the existence is proved by the Leray-Schauder fixed point theorem. We prove the existence of solutions such that v , θ W s 2 , 1 ( Ω T ) , p L s ( Ω T ) , s>2.

Lower bound and upper bound of operators on block weighted sequence spaces

Rahmatollah Lashkaripour, Gholomraza Talebi (2012)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Let A = ( a n , k ) n , k 1 be a non-negative matrix. Denote by L v , p , q , F ( A ) the supremum of those L that satisfy the inequality A x v , q , F L x v , p , F , where x 0 and x l p ( v , F ) and also v = ( v n ) n = 1 is an increasing, non-negative sequence of real numbers. If p = q , we use L v , p , F ( A ) instead of L v , p , p , F ( A ) . In this paper we obtain a Hardy type formula for L v , p , q , F ( H μ ) , where H μ is a Hausdorff matrix and 0 < q p 1 . Another purpose of this paper is to establish a lower bound for A W N M v , p , F , where A W N M is the Nörlund matrix associated with the sequence W = { w n } n = 1 and 1 < p < . Our results generalize some works of Bennett, Jameson and present authors....
