Transient MHD double-diffusive natural convection over a vertical surface embedded in a non-Darcy porous medium.
Bounded traveling waves, arising in combustion model for gas-solid reactions in a porous medium, are studied. We consider the existence, uniqueness and several qualitative properties. In particular we investigate waves with finiteness and derive estimates in the limit of vanishing diffusion.
Propagation of chemical waves at very low temperatures, observed experimentally [V.V. Barelko et al., Advances in Chem. Phys. 74 (1988), 339-384.] at velocities of order 10 cm/s, is due to a very non- standard physical mechanism. The energy liberated by the chemical reaction induces destruction of the material, thereby facilitating the reaction, a process very different from standard combustion. In this work we present recent experimental results and develop a new mathematical model which takes...
The paper is concerned with a parallel implementation of the progressive hedging algorithm (PHA) which is applicable for the solution of stochastic optimization problems. We utilized the Message Passing Interface (MPI) and the General Algebraic Modelling System (GAMS) to concurrently solve the scenario-related subproblems in parallel manner. The standalone application combining the PHA, MPI, and GAMS was programmed in C++. The created software was successfully applied to a steel production problem...
The Lyapunov direct method is applied to study nonlinear exponential stability of a basic motionless state to imposed linear temperature and concentration fields of a binary fluid mixture heated and salted from below, in the Oberbeck-Boussinesq scheme. Stress-free and rigid surfaces are considered and absence of Hopf bifurcation is assumed. We prove the coincidence of the linear and (unconditional) nonlinear critical stability limits, when the ratio between the Schmidt and the Prandtl numbers is...
Si fornisce un teorema di unicità per moti stazionari regolari di fluidi compressibili, viscosi, termicamente conduttori, svolgentisi in regioni limitate dello spazio fisico.
We study a variational formulation for a Stefan problem in two adjoining bodies, when the heat conductivity of one of them becomes infinitely large. We study the «concentrated capacity» model arising in the limit, and we justify it by an asymptotic analysis, which is developed in the general framework of the abstract evolution equations of monotone type.
