n -angulated quotient categories induced by mutation pairs

Zengqiang Lin (2015)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Geiss, Keller and Oppermann (2013) introduced the notion of n -angulated category, which is a “higher dimensional” analogue of triangulated category, and showed that certain ( n - 2 ) -cluster tilting subcategories of triangulated categories give rise to n -angulated categories. We define mutation pairs in n -angulated categories and prove that given such a mutation pair, the corresponding quotient category carries a natural n -angulated structure. This result generalizes a theorem of Iyama-Yoshino...

Schur-Finite Motives and Trace Identities

Alessio Del Padrone, Carlo Mazza (2009)

Bollettino dell'Unione Matematica Italiana

Similarity:

We provide a sufficient condition that ensures the nilpotency of endomorphisms universally of trace zero of Schur-finite objects in a category of homological type, i.e., a -linear -category with a tensor functor to super vector spaces. We present some applications in the category of motives, where our result generalizes previous results about finite-dimensional objects, in particular by Kimura. We also present some facts which suggest that this might be the best generalization possible...

Yetter-Drinfeld-Long bimodules are modules

Daowei Lu, Shuan Hong Wang (2017)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Let H be a finite-dimensional bialgebra. In this paper, we prove that the category ℒℛ ( H ) of Yetter-Drinfeld-Long bimodules, introduced by F. Panaite, F. Van Oystaeyen (2008), is isomorphic to the Yetter-Drinfeld category H H * H H * 𝒴𝒟 over the tensor product bialgebra H H * as monoidal categories. Moreover if H is a finite-dimensional Hopf algebra with bijective antipode, the isomorphism is braided. Finally, as an application of this category isomorphism, we give two results.

Injective comodules and Landweber exact homology theories

Mark Hovey (2007)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

We classify the indecomposable injective E(n)⁎E(n)-comodules, where E(n) is the Johnson-Wilson homology theory. They are suspensions of the J n , r = E ( n ) ( M r E ( r ) ) , where 0 ≤ r ≤ n, with the endomorphism ring of J n , r being E ( r ) ^ * E ( r ) ^ , where E ( r ) ^ denotes the completion of E(r).

Noncommutative Hodge-to-de Rham spectral sequence and the Heegaard Floer homology of double covers

Robert Lipshitz, David Treumann (2016)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

Let A be a dg algebra over 𝔽 2 and let M be a dg A -bimodule. We show that under certain technical hypotheses on A , a noncommutative analog of the Hodge-to-de Rham spectral sequence starts at the Hochschild homology of the derived tensor product M A L M and converges to the Hochschild homology of M . We apply this result to bordered Heegaard Floer theory, giving spectral sequences associated to Heegaard Floer homology groups of certain branched and unbranched double covers.

Homology of origamis with symmetries

Carlos Matheus, Jean-Christophe Yoccoz, David Zmiaikou (2014)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Similarity:

Given an origami (square-tiled surface) M with automorphism group Γ , we compute the decomposition of the first homology group of M into isotypic Γ -submodules. Through the action of the affine group of M on the homology group, we deduce some consequences for the multiplicities of the Lyapunov exponents of the Kontsevich-Zorich cocycle. We also construct and study several families of interesting origamis illustrating our results.

Two results of n -exangulated categories

Jian He, Jing He, Panyue Zhou (2024)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

M. Herschend, Y. Liu, H. Nakaoka introduced n -exangulated categories, which are a simultaneous generalization of n -exact categories and ( n + 2 ) -angulated categories. This paper consists of two results on n -exangulated categories: (1) we give an equivalent characterization of axiom (EA2); (2) we provide a new way to construct a closed subfunctor of an n -exangulated category.

The KSBA compactification for the moduli space of degree two K 3 pairs

Radu Laza (2016)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

Inspired by the ideas of the minimal model program, Shepherd-Barron, Kollár, and Alexeev have constructed a geometric compactification for the moduli space of surfaces of log general type. In this paper, we discuss one of the simplest examples that fits into this framework: the case of pairs ( X , H ) consisting of a degree two K 3 surface X and an ample divisor H . Specifically, we construct and describe explicitly a geometric compactification P ¯ 2 for the moduli of degree two K 3 pairs. This compactification...

Even sets of nodes on sextic surfaces

Fabrizio Catanese, Fabio Tonoli (2007)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We determine the possible even sets of nodes on sextic surfaces in 3 , showing in particular that their cardinalities are exactly the numbers in the set { 24 , 32 , 40 , 56 } . We also show that all the possible cases admit an explicit description. The methods that we use are an interplay of coding theory and projective geometry on one hand, and of homological and computer algebra on the other. We give a detailed geometric construction for the new case of an even set of 56 nodes, but the ultimate verification...

Bridgeland-stable moduli spaces for K -trivial surfaces

Daniele Arcara, Aaron Bertram (2013)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We give a one-parameter family of Bridgeland stability conditions on the derived category of a smooth projective complex surface S and describe “wall-crossing behavior” for objects with the same invariants as 𝒪 C ( H ) when H generates Pic ( S ) and C H . If, in addition, S is a K 3 or Abelian surface, we use this description to construct a sequence of fine moduli spaces of Bridgeland-stable objects via Mukai flops and generalized elementary modifications of the universal coherent sheaf. We also discover...

Counting lines on surfaces

Samuel Boissière, Alessandra Sarti (2007)

Annali della Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa - Classe di Scienze

Similarity:

This paper deals with surfaces with many lines. It is well-known that a cubic contains 27 of them and that the maximal number for a quartic is 64 . In higher degree the question remains open. Here we study classical and new constructions of surfaces with high number of lines. We obtain a symmetric octic with 352 lines, and give examples of surfaces of degree d containing a sequence of d ( d - 2 ) + 4 skew lines.

On the structure of triangulated categories with finitely many indecomposables

Claire Amiot (2007)

Bulletin de la Société Mathématique de France

Similarity:

We study the problem of classifying triangulated categories with finite-dimensional morphism spaces and finitely many indecomposables over an algebraically closed field k . We obtain a new proof of the following result due to Xiao and Zhu: the Auslander-Reiten quiver of such a category 𝒯 is of the form Δ / G where Δ is a disjoint union of simply-laced Dynkin diagrams and G a weakly admissible group of automorphisms of Δ . Then we prove that for ‘most’ groups G , the category 𝒯 is standard, ...

Base change for Picard-Vessiot closures

Andy R. Magid (2011)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

The differential automorphism group, over F, Π₁(F₁) of the Picard-Vessiot closure F₁ of a differential field F is a proalgebraic group over the field C F of constants of F, which is assumed to be algebraically closed of characteristic zero, and its category of C F modules is equivalent to the category of differential modules over F. We show how this group and the category equivalence behave under a differential extension E ⊃ F, where C E is also algebraically closed.

Dimension vs. genus: A surface realization of the little k-cubes and an E operad

Ralph M. Kaufmann (2009)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

We define a new E operad based on surfaces with foliations which contains E k suboperads. We construct CW models for these operads and provide applications of these models by giving actions on Hochschild complexes (thus making contact with string topology), by giving explicit cell representatives for the Dyer-Lashof-Cohen operations for the 2-cubes and by constructing new Ω spectra. The underlying novel principle is that we can trade genus in the surface representation vs. the dimension...

Topology of Fatou components for endomorphisms of k : linking with the Green’s current

Suzanne Lynch Hruska, Roland K. W. Roeder (2010)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

Little is known about the global topology of the Fatou set U(f) for holomorphic endomorphisms f : k k , when k >1. Classical theory describes U(f) as the complement in k of the support of a dynamically defined closed positive (1,1) current. Given any closed positive (1,1) current S on k , we give a definition of linking number between closed loops in k s u p p S and the current S. It has the property that if lk(γ,S) ≠ 0, then γ represents a non-trivial homology element in H ( k s u p p S ) . As an application, we use...

A note on model structures on arbitrary Frobenius categories

Zhi-wei Li (2017)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

We show that there is a model structure in the sense of Quillen on an arbitrary Frobenius category such that the homotopy category of this model structure is equivalent to the stable category ̲ as triangulated categories. This seems to be well-accepted by experts but we were unable to find a complete proof for it in the literature. When is a weakly idempotent complete (i.e., every split monomorphism is an inflation) Frobenius category, the model structure we constructed is an exact...

Numerical Campedelli surfaces with fundamental group of order 9

Margarida Mendes Lopes, Rita Pardini (2008)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We give explicit constructions of all the numerical Campedelli surfaces, i.e. the minimal surfaces of general type with K 2 = 2 and p g = 0 , whose fundamental group has order 9. There are three families, one with π 1 alg = 9 and two with π 1 alg = 3 2 . We also determine the base locus of the bicanonical system of these surfaces. It turns out that for the surfaces with π 1 alg = 9 and for one of the families of surfaces with π 1 alg = 3 2 the base locus consists of two points. To our knowlegde, these are the only known examples of surfaces...

Derived endo-discrete artin algebras

Raymundo Bautista (2006)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

Let Λ be an artin algebra. We prove that for each sequence ( h i ) i of non-negative integers there are only a finite number of isomorphism classes of indecomposables X b ( Λ ) , the bounded derived category of Λ, with l e n g t h E ( X ) H i ( X ) = h i for all i ∈ ℤ and E(X) the endomorphism ring of X in b ( Λ ) if and only if b ( M o d Λ ) , the bounded derived category of the category M o d Λ of all left Λ-modules, has no generic objects in the sense of [4].

Algebraic K -theory of the first Morava K -theory

Christian Ausoni, John Rognes (2012)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

For a prime p 5 , we compute the algebraic K -theory modulo p and v 1 of the mod p Adams summand, using topological cyclic homology. On the way, we evaluate its modulo p and v 1 topological Hochschild homology. Using a localization sequence, we also compute the K -theory modulo p and v 1 of the first Morava K -theory.

Noncommutative numerical motives, Tannakian structures, and motivic Galois groups

Matilde Marcolli, Gonçalo Tabuada (2016)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

In this article we further the study of noncommutative numerical motives, initiated in [30, 31]. By exploring the change-of-coefficients mechanism, we start by improving some of the main results of [30]. Then, making use of the notion of Schur-finiteness, we prove that the category NNum ( k ) F of noncommutative numerical motives is (neutral) super-Tannakian. As in the commutative world, NNum ( k ) F is not Tannakian. In order to solve this problem we promote periodic cyclic homology to a well-defined...

Generic representations of orthogonal groups: projective functors in the category q u a d

Christine Vespa (2008)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

We continue the study of the category of functors q u a d , associated to ₂-vector spaces equipped with a nondegenerate quadratic form, initiated in J. Pure Appl. Algebra 212 (2008) and Algebr. Geom. Topology 7 (2007). We define a filtration of the standard projective objects in q u a d ; this refines to give a decomposition into indecomposable factors of the first two standard projective objects in q u a d : P H and P H . As an application of these two decompositions, we give a complete description of the polynomial...

On the uniqueness of elliptic K3 surfaces with maximal singular fibre

Matthias Schütt, Andreas Schweizer (2013)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Similarity:

We explicitly determine the elliptic K 3 surfaces with section and maximal singular fibre. If the characteristic of the ground field is different from 2 , for each of the two possible maximal fibre types, I 19 and I 14 * , the surface is unique. In characteristic 2 the maximal fibre types are I 18 and I 13 * , and there exist two (resp. one) one-parameter families of such surfaces.

How to construct a Hovey triple from two cotorsion pairs

James Gillespie (2015)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

Let be an abelian category, or more generally a weakly idempotent complete exact category, and suppose we have two complete hereditary cotorsion pairs ( , ˜ ) and ( ˜ , ) in satisfying ˜ and ˜ = ˜ . We show how to construct a (necessarily unique) abelian model structure on with (resp. ˜ ) as the class of cofibrant (resp. trivially cofibrant) objects, and (resp. ˜ ) as the class of fibrant (resp. trivially fibrant) objects.

Taylor towers of symmetric and exterior powers

Brenda Johnson, Randy McCarthy (2008)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

We study the Taylor towers of the nth symmetric and exterior power functors, Spⁿ and Λⁿ. We obtain a description of the layers of the Taylor towers, D k S p and D k Λ , in terms of the first terms in the Taylor towers of S p t and Λ t for t < n. The homology of these first terms is related to the stable derived functors (in the sense of Dold and Puppe) of S p t and Λ t . We use stable derived functor calculations of Dold and Puppe to determine the lowest nontrivial homology groups for D k S p and D k Λ .
