n-supercyclic and strongly n-supercyclic operators in finite dimensions

Romuald Ernst (2014)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

We prove that on N , there is no n-supercyclic operator with 1 ≤ n < ⌊(N + 1)/2⌋, i.e. if N has an n-dimensional subspace whose orbit under T ( N ) is dense in N , then n is greater than ⌊(N + 1)/2⌋. Moreover, this value is optimal. We then consider the case of strongly n-supercyclic operators. An operator T ( N ) is strongly n-supercyclic if N has an n-dimensional subspace whose orbit under T is dense in ( N ) , the nth Grassmannian. We prove that strong n-supercyclicity does not occur non-trivially...

We introduce the notion of a strongly Whyburn space, and show that a space X is strongly Whyburn if and only if X × ( ω + 1 ) is Whyburn. We also show that if X × Y is Whyburn for any Whyburn space Y , then X is discrete.

Let X be a Banach space, ( X ) the algebra of bounded linear operators on X and ( J , · J ) an admissible Banach ideal of ( X ) . For T ( X ) , let L J , T and R J , T ( J ) denote the left and right multiplication defined by L J , T ( A ) = T A and R J , T ( A ) = A T , respectively. In this paper, we study the transmission of some concepts related to recurrent operators between T ( X ) , and their elementary operators L J , T and R J , T . In particular, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for L J , T and R J , T to be sequentially recurrent. Furthermore, we prove that L J , T is recurrent...

Let be a complex Hilbert space, A a positive operator with closed range in ( ) and A ( ) the sub-algebra of ( ) of all A -self-adjoint operators. Assume φ : A ( ) onto itself is a linear continuous map. This paper shows that if φ preserves A -unitary operators such that φ ( I ) = P then ψ defined by ψ ( T ) = P φ ( P T ) is a homomorphism or an anti-homomorphism and ψ ( T ) = ψ ( T ) for all T A ( ) , where P = A + A and A + is the Moore-Penrose inverse of A . A similar result is also true if φ preserves A -quasi-unitary operators in both directions such that there...

On the range-kernel orthogonality of elementary operators

Let L ( H ) denote the algebra of operators on a complex infinite dimensional Hilbert space H . For A , B L ( H ) , the generalized derivation δ A , B and the elementary operator Δ A , B are defined by δ A , B ( X ) = A X - X B and Δ A , B ( X ) = A X B - X for all X L ( H ) . In this paper, we exhibit pairs ( A , B ) of operators such that the range-kernel orthogonality of δ A , B holds for the usual operator norm. We generalize some recent results. We also establish some theorems on the orthogonality of the range and the kernel of Δ A , B with respect to the wider class of unitarily invariant...

In this paper, we obtain new sufficient conditions for the operators F α 1 , α 2 , . . . , α n , β ( z ) and G α 1 , α 2 , . . . , α n , β ( z ) to be univalent in the open unit disc 𝒰 , where the functions f 1 , f 2 , . . . , f n belong to the classes S * ( a , b ) and 𝒦 ( a , b ) . The order of convexity for the operators  F α 1 , α 2 , . . . , α n , β ( z ) and G α 1 , α 2 , . . . , α n , β ( z ) is also determined. Furthermore, and for β = 1 , we obtain sufficient conditions for the operators F n ( z ) and G n ( z ) to be in the class 𝒦 ( a , b ) . Several corollaries and consequences of the main results are also considered.

The weak Gelfand-Phillips property in spaces of compact operators

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

For Banach spaces X and Y , let K w * ( X * , Y ) denote the space of all w * - w continuous compact operators from X * to Y endowed with the operator norm. A Banach space X has the w G P property if every Grothendieck subset of X is relatively weakly compact. In this paper we study Banach spaces with property w G P . We investigate whether the spaces K w * ( X * , Y ) and X ϵ Y have the w G P property, when X and Y have the w G P property.

As a consequence we prove that if P g has no rigid eigenspaces for a dense set of metrics, then all non-zero eigenvalues are simple for a residual set of metrics...

The ideal of p-compact operators: a tensor product approach

Daniel Galicer, Silvia Lassalle, Pablo Turco (2012)

We prove that p is associated to / d p , the left injective associate of the Chevet-Saphar tensor norm d p (which is equal to g p ' ' ). This allows us to relate the theory of p-summing operators to that of p-compact operators. Using the results known for the former class and appropriate hypotheses on E and F we prove that p ( E ; F ) is equal to q ( E ; F ) for a wide range of values of p and q, and show that our results...

H calculus and dilatations

Andreas M. Fröhlich, Lutz Weis (2006)

Bulletin de la Société Mathématique de France

Similarity:

We characterise the boundedness of the H calculus of a sectorial operator in terms of dilation theorems. We show e. g. that if - A generates a bounded analytic C 0 semigroup ( T t ) on a UMD space, then the H calculus of A is bounded if and only if ( T t ) has a dilation to a bounded group on L 2 ( [ 0 , 1 ] , X ) . This generalises a Hilbert space result of C.LeMerdy. If X is an L p space we can choose another L p space in place of L 2 ( [ 0 , 1 ] , X ) .
