Fabio Podestà (1987)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

In this work we give a characterization of the projective invariant pseudometric P , introduced by H. Wu, for a particular class of real 𝐂 -manifolds; in view of this result, we study the group of projective transformations for the same class of manifolds and we determine the integrated pseudodistance p of P in open convex regular cones of n , endowed with the characteristic metric.

Hyperbolicity and integral points off divisors in subgeneral position in projective algebraic varieties

Do Duc Thai, Nguyen Huu Kien (2015)

Acta Arithmetica

Similarity:

The purpose of this article is twofold. The first is to find the dimension of the set of integral points off divisors in subgeneral position in a projective algebraic variety V k ̅ m , where k is a number field. As consequences, the results of Ru-Wong (1991), Ru (1993), Noguchi-Winkelmann (2003) and Levin (2008) are recovered. The second is to show the complete hyperbolicity of the complement of divisors in subgeneral position in a projective algebraic variety V m .

Specialization to the tangent cone and Whitney equisingularity

Arturo Giles Flores (2013)

Bulletin de la Société Mathématique de France

Similarity:

Let ( X , 0 ) be a reduced, equidimensional germ of an analytic singularity with reduced tangent cone ( C X , 0 , 0 ) . We prove that the absence of exceptional cones is a necessary and sufficient condition for the smooth part 𝔛 0 of the specialization to the tangent cone ϕ : 𝔛 to satisfy Whitney’s conditions along the parameter axis Y . This result is a first step in generalizing to higher dimensions Lê and Teissier’s result for hypersurfaces of 3 which establishes the Whitney equisingularity of X and its tangent...

A Note on Lax Projective Embeddings of Grassmann Spaces

Eva Ferrara Dentice (2018)

Rendiconto dell’Accademia delle Scienze Fisiche e Matematiche

Similarity:

In the paper (Ferrara Dentice et al., 2004) a complete exposition of the state of the art for lax embeddings of polar spaces of finite rank 3 is presented. As a consequence, we have that if a Grassmann space G of dimension 3 and index 1 has a lax embedding in a projective space over a skew–field K , then G is the Klein quadric defined over a subfield of K . In this paper, I examine Grassmann spaces of arbitrary dimension d 3 and index h 1 having a lax embedding in a projective space.

Grassmann manifold V 3 4 in the projective space P 7 with characteristics consisting of a quadric and two planes

Josef Vala (1993)

Mathematica Bohemica

Similarity:

Some results in the geometry of four-parametric manifolds of three-dimensional spaces in the projective space P 7 are found. The properties of such a manifold V 3 4 with characteristics consisting of a quadric and two planes are studied. The properties of the manifold dual to V 3 4 are found. Some results in the geometry of linear spaces from [1],[2],[3],[4] are used. The notation of the quantities is the same as in [4].

Fitting Conditions for Symmetric Algebras of Modules of Finite Projective Dimension

Bollettino dell'Unione Matematica Italiana

Similarity:

Let E be a finitely generated R -module, having finite projective dimension. We study the acyclicity of the approximation complex 𝒵 ( E ) of E in terms of certain Fitting conditions F k ( i ) on the Fitting ideals of the i -th module of a projective resolution of E . We deduce some good properties of the symmetric algebra of E .

Generic representations of orthogonal groups: projective functors in the category q u a d

Christine Vespa (2008)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

We continue the study of the category of functors q u a d , associated to ₂-vector spaces equipped with a nondegenerate quadratic form, initiated in J. Pure Appl. Algebra 212 (2008) and Algebr. Geom. Topology 7 (2007). We define a filtration of the standard projective objects in q u a d ; this refines to give a decomposition into indecomposable factors of the first two standard projective objects in q u a d : P H and P H . As an application of these two decompositions, we give a complete description of the polynomial...

Semigroup actions on tori and stationary measures on projective spaces

Yves Guivarc'h, Roman Urban (2005)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

Let Γ be a subsemigroup of G = GL(d,ℝ), d > 1. We assume that the action of Γ on d is strongly irreducible and that Γ contains a proximal and quasi-expanding element. We describe contraction properties of the dynamics of Γ on d at infinity. This amounts to the consideration of the action of Γ on some compact homogeneous spaces of G, which are extensions of the projective space d - 1 . In the case where Γ is a subsemigroup of GL(d,ℝ) ∩ M(d,ℤ) and Γ has the above properties, we deduce that...

Finite projective planes, Fermat curves, and Gaussian periods

Koen Thas, Don Zagier (2008)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

One of the oldest and most fundamental problems in the theory of finite projective planes is to classify those having a group which acts transitively on the incident point-line pairs (flags). The conjecture is that the only ones are the Desarguesian projective planes (over a finite field). In this paper, we show that non-Desarguesian finite flag-transitive projective planes exist if and only if certain Fermat surfaces have no nontrivial rational points, and formulate several other equivalences...

Coloring ordinals by reals

Jörg Brendle, Sakaé Fuchino (2007)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

We study combinatorial principles we call the Homogeneity Principle HP(κ) and the Injectivity Principle IP(κ,λ) for regular κ > ℵ₁ and λ ≤ κ which are formulated in terms of coloring the ordinals < κ by reals. These principles are strengthenings of C s ( κ ) and F s ( κ ) of I. Juhász, L. Soukup and Z. Szentmiklóssy. Generalizing their results, we show e.g. that IP(ℵ₂,ℵ₁) (hence also IP(ℵ₂,ℵ₂) as well as HP(ℵ₂)) holds in a generic extension of a model of CH by Cohen forcing, and IP(ℵ₂,ℵ₂) (hence...

Equilibrium measures for holomorphic endomorphisms of complex projective spaces

Mariusz Urbański, Anna Zdunik (2013)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

Let f: ℙ → ℙ be a holomorphic endomorphism of a complex projective space k , k ≥ 1, and let J be the Julia set of f (the topological support of the unique maximal entropy measure). Then there exists a positive number κ f > 0 such that if ϕ: J → ℝ is a Hölder continuous function with s u p ( ϕ ) - i n f ( ϕ ) < κ f , then ϕ admits a unique equilibrium state μ ϕ on J. This equilibrium state is equivalent to a fixed point of the normalized dual Perron-Frobenius operator. In addition, the dynamical system ( f , μ ϕ ) is K-mixing, whence...

On weak sharp minima for a special class of nonsmooth functions

Similarity:

We present a characterization of weak sharp local minimizers of order one for a function f: ℝⁿ → ℝ defined by f ( x ) : = m a x f i ( x ) | i = 1 , . . . , p , where the functions f i are strictly differentiable. It is given in terms of the gradients of f i and the Mordukhovich normal cone to a given set on which f is constant. Then we apply this result to a smooth nonlinear programming problem with constraints.

Hyperideal polyhedra in hyperbolic 3-space

Xiliang Bao, Francis Bonahon (2002)

Bulletin de la Société Mathématique de France

Similarity:

A hyperideal polyhedron is a non-compact polyhedron in the hyperbolic 3 -space 3 which, in the projective model for 3 ℝℙ 3 , is just the intersection of 3 with a projective polyhedron whose vertices are all outside 3 and whose edges all meet 3 . We classify hyperideal polyhedra, up to isometries of 3 , in terms of their combinatorial type and of their dihedral angles.

Flat 3-webs of degree one on the projective plane

A. Beltrán, M. Falla Luza, D. Marín (2014)

Annales de la faculté des sciences de Toulouse Mathématiques

Similarity:

The aim of this work is to study global 3 -webs with vanishing curvature. We wish to investigate degree 3 foliations for which their dual web is flat. The main ingredient is the Legendre transform, which is an avatar of classical projective duality in the realm of differential equations. We find a characterization of degree 3 foliations whose Legendre transform are webs with zero curvature.
