An integral for vector-valued functions on a σ-finite outer regular quasi-Radon measure space is defined by means of partitions of unity and it is shown that it is equivalent to the McShane integral. The multipliers for both the McShane and Pettis integrals are characterized.
This paper investigates the problem of optimal partitioning of a measurable space among a finite number of individuals. We demonstrate the sufficient conditions for the existence of weakly Pareto optimal partitions and for the equivalence between weak Pareto optimality and Pareto optimality. We demonstrate that every weakly Pareto optimal partition is a solution to the problem of maximizing a weighted sum of individual utilities. We also provide sufficient conditions for the existence of core partitions...
We introduce the concept of analytic spectral radius for a family of operators indexed by some finite measure space. This spectral radius is compared with the algebraic and geometric spectral radii when the operators belong to some finite-dimensional solvable Lie algebra. We describe several situations when the three spectral radii coincide. These results extend well known facts concerning commuting n-tuples of operators.
It is shown that a Banach-valued Henstock-Kurzweil integrable function on an -dimensional compact interval is McShane integrable on a portion of the interval. As a consequence, there exist a non-Perron integrable function and a continuous function such that for all .
A new definition of the product integral is given. The definition is based on a procedure which is analogous to the sum definition of the Bochner integral given by J. Kurzweil and E.J. McShane. The new definition is shown to be equivalent to the seemingly verey different one given by J.D. Dollard and C.N. Friedman in [1] and [2].
We study strongly exposed points in general Köthe-Bochner Banach spaces X(E). We first give a characterization of strongly exposed points of the set of X-selections of a measurable multifunction Γ. We then apply this result to the study of strongly exposed points of the closed unit ball of X(E). Precisely we show that if an element f is a strongly exposed point of , then |f| is a strongly exposed point of and f(ω)/∥ f(ω)∥ is a strongly exposed point of for μ-almost all ω ∈ S(f).
We prove that several results of Talagrand proved for the Pettis integral also hold for the Kurzweil-Henstock-Pettis integral. In particular the Kurzweil-Henstock-Pettis integrability can be characterized by cores of the functions and by properties of suitable operators defined by integrands.
A characterization is given of those Banach-space-valued vector measures m with finite variation whose associated integration operator Iₘ: f ↦ ∫fdm is compact as a linear map from L¹(m) into the Banach space. Moreover, in every infinite-dimensional Banach space there exist nontrivial vector measures m (with finite variation) such that Iₘ is compact, and other m (still with finite variation) such that Iₘ is not compact. If m has infinite variation, then Iₘ is never compact.
