On a probabilistic interpretation of shape derivatives of Dirichlet groundstates with application to Fermion nodes

Mathias Rousset (2010)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

This paper considers Schrödinger operators, and presents a probabilistic interpretation of the variation (or shape derivative) of the Dirichlet groundstate energy when the associated domain is perturbed. This interpretation relies on the distribution on the boundary of a stopped random process with Feynman-Kac weights. Practical computations require in addition the explicit approximation of the normal derivative of the groundstate on the boundary. We then propose to use this formulation in the...

On non-overdetermined inverse scattering at zero energy in three dimensions

Roman G. Novikov (2006)

Annali della Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa - Classe di Scienze

We develop the ¯ -approach to inverse scattering at zero energy in dimensions d 3 of [Beals, Coifman 1985], [Henkin, Novikov 1987] and [Novikov 2002]. As a result we give, in particular, uniqueness theorem, precise reconstruction procedure, stability estimate and approximate reconstruction for the problem of finding a sufficiently small potential v in the Schrödinger equation from a fixed non-overdetermined (“backscattering” type) restriction h | Γ of the Faddeev generalized scattering amplitude h in the...

On solutions of the Schrödinger equation with radiation conditions at infinity : the long-range case

Yannick Gâtel, Dimitri Yafaev (1999)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

We consider the homogeneous Schrödinger equation with a long-range potential and show that its solutions satisfying some a priori bound at infinity can asymptotically be expressed as a sum of incoming and outgoing distorted spherical waves. Coefficients of these waves are related by the scattering matrix. This generalizes a similar result obtained earlier in the short-range case.

On some elliptic transmission problems

Christodoulos Athanasiadis, Ioannis G. Stratis (1996)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Boundary value problems for second order linear elliptic equations with coefficients having discontinuities of the first kind on an infinite number of smooth surfaces are studied. Existence, uniqueness and regularity results are furnished for the diffraction problem in such a bounded domain, and for the corresponding transmission problem in all of N . The transmission problem corresponding to the scattering of acoustic plane waves by an infinitely stratified scatterer, consisting of layers with physically...

On the distribution of resonances for some asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds

R. G. Froese, Peter D. Hislop (2000)

Journées équations aux dérivées partielles

We establish a sharp upper bound for the resonance counting function for a class of asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds in arbitrary dimension, including convex, cocompact hyperbolic manifolds in two dimensions. The proof is based on the construction of a suitable paramatrix for the absolute S -matrix that is unitary for real values of the energy. This paramatrix is the S -matrix for a model laplacian corresponding to a separable metric near infinity. The proof of the upper bound on the resonance...

On the distribution of scattering poles for perturbations of the Laplacian

Georgi Vodev (1992)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

We consider selfadjoint positively definite operators of the form - Δ + P (not necessarily elliptic) in n , n 3 , odd, where P is a second-order differential operator with coefficients of compact supports. We show that the number of the scattering poles outside a conic neighbourhood of the real axis admits the same estimates as in the elliptic case. More precisely, if { λ j } ( Im λ j 0 ) are the scattering poles associated to the operator - Δ + P repeated according to multiplicity, it is proved that for any ϵ > 0 there exists a constant...
