Approximation properties of β-expansions
Let β ∈ (1,2) and x ∈ [0,1/(β-1)]. We call a sequence a β-expansion for x if . We call a finite sequence an n-prefix for x if it can be extended to form a β-expansion of x. In this paper we study how good an approximation is provided by the set of n-prefixes. Given , we introduce the following subset of ℝ: In other words, is the set of x ∈ ℝ for which there exist infinitely many solutions to the inequalities . When , the Borel-Cantelli lemma tells us that the Lebesgue measure of is...

Arithmetic progressions and the primes.
We describe some of the machinery behind recent progress in establishing infinitely many arithmetic progressions of length k in various sets of integers, in particular in arbitrary dense subsets of the integers, and in the primes.
Aspects of uniformity in recurrence
We analyze and cite applications of various, loosely related notions of uniformity inherent to the phenomenon of (multiple) recurrence in ergodic theory. An assortment of results are obtained, among them sharpenings of two theorems due to Bourgain. The first of these, which in the original guarantees existence of sets x,x+h, in subsets E of positive measure in the unit interval, with lower bounds on h depending only on m(E), is expanded to the case of arbitrary finite polynomial configurations...
Asymptotic laws for geodesic homology on hyperbolic manifolds with cusps
We consider a large class of non compact hyperbolic manifolds with cusps and we prove that the winding process generated by a closed -form supported on a neighborhood of a cusp , satisfies a limit theorem, with an asymptotic stable law and a renormalising factor depending only on the rank of the cusp and the Poincaré exponent of . No assumption on the value of is required and this theorem generalises previous results due to Y. Guivarc’h, Y. Le Jan, J. Franchi and N. Enriquez.
Asymptotic Vassiliev invariants for vector fields
We analyse the asymptotical growth of Vassiliev invariants on non-periodic flow lines of ergodic vector fields on domains of . More precisely, we show that the asymptotics of Vassiliev invariants is completely determined by the helicity of the vector field.
Asymptotically Brownian skew products give non-loosely Bernoulli K-automorphisms.

Atomic surfaces, tilings and coincidences II. Reducible case
The atomic surfaces of unimodular Pisot substitutions of irreducible type have been studied by many authors. In this article, we study the atomic surfaces of Pisot substitutions of reducible type.As an analogue of the irreducible case, we define the stepped-surface and the dual substitution over it. Using these notions, we give a simple proof to the fact that atomic surfaces form a self-similar tiling system. We show that the stepped-surface possesses the quasi-periodic property, which implies that...

Averaging method for differential equations perturbed by dynamical systems
In this paper, we are interested in the asymptotical behavior of the error between the solution of a differential equation perturbed by a flow (or by a transformation) and the solution of the associated averaged differential equation. The main part of this redaction is devoted to the ascertainment of results of convergence in distribution analogous to those obtained in [10] and [11]. As in [11], we shall use a representation by a suspension flow over a dynamical system. Here, we make an assumption...

Axiomatic theory of divergent series and cohomological equations
A general theory of summation of divergent series based on the Hardy-Kolmogorov axioms is developed. A class of functional series is investigated by means of ergodic theory. The results are formulated in terms of solvability of some cohomological equations, all solutions to which are nonmeasurable. In particular, this realizes a construction of a nonmeasurable function as first conjectured by Kolmogorov.
Banach principle in the space of τ-measurable operators
We establish a non-commutative analog of the classical Banach Principle on the almost everywhere convergence of sequences of measurable functions. The result is stated in terms of quasi-uniform (or almost uniform) convergence of sequences of measurable (with respect to a trace) operators affiliated with a semifinite von Neumann algebra. Then we discuss possible applications of this result.

Bergelson's theorem for weakly mixing C*-dynamical systems
We study a nonconventional ergodic average for asymptotically abelian weakly mixing C*-dynamical systems, related to a second iteration of Khinchin's recurrence theorem obtained by Bergelson in the measure-theoretic case. A noncommutative recurrence theorem for such systems is obtained as a corollary.
