Haar null and non-dominating sets

Sławomir Solecki (2001)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We study the σ-ideal of Haar null sets on Polish groups. It is shown that on a non-locally compact Polish group with an invariant metric this σ-ideal is closely related, in a precise sense, to the σ-ideal of non-dominating subsets of ω ω . Among other consequences, this result implies that the family of closed Haar null sets on a Polish group with an invariant metric is Borel in the Effros Borel structure if, and only if, the group is locally compact. This answers a question of Kechris. We also obtain...

Haar system on a product of zero-dimensional compact groups

Sergei Lukomskii (2011)

Open Mathematics

In this work, we study the problem of constructing Haar bases on a product of arbitrary compact zero-dimensional Abelian groups. A general scheme for the construction of Haar functions is given for arbitrary dimension. For dimension d=2, we describe all Haar functions.

Haar wavelets on the Lebesgue spaces of local fields of positive characteristic

Biswaranjan Behera (2014)

Colloquium Mathematicae

We construct the Haar wavelets on a local field K of positive characteristic and show that the Haar wavelet system forms an unconditional basis for L p ( K ) , 1 < p < ∞. We also prove that this system, normalized in L p ( K ) , is a democratic basis of L p ( K ) . This also proves that the Haar system is a greedy basis of L p ( K ) for 1 < p < ∞.

Hahn's Embedding Theorem for orders and harmonic analysis on groups with ordered duals

Nakhlé Asmar, Stephen Montgomery-Smith (1996)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Let G be a locally compact abelian group whose dual group Γ contains a Haar measurable order P. Using the order P we define the conjugate function operator on L p ( G ) , 1 ≤ p < ∞, as was done by Helson [7]. We will show how to use Hahn’s Embedding Theorem for orders and the ergodic Hilbert transform to study the conjugate function. Our approach enables us to define a filtration of the Borel σ-algebra on G, which in turn will allow us to introduce tools from martingale theory into the analysis on groups...

Hankel forms

Henry Helson (2010)

Studia Mathematica

It is an open question whether Nehari's theorem on the circle group has an analogue on the infinite-dimensional torus. In this note it is shown that if the analogue holds, then some interesting inequalities follow for certain trigonometric polynomials on the torus. We think these inequalities are false but are not able to prove that.

Hankel forms and sums of random variables

Henry Helson (2006)

Studia Mathematica

A well known theorem of Nehari asserts on the circle group that bilinear forms in H² can be lifted to linear functionals on H¹. We show that this result can be extended to Hankel forms in infinitely many variables of a certain type. As a corollary we find a new proof that all the L p norms on the class of Steinhaus series are equivalent.

Hardy space H1 associated to Schrödinger operator with potential satisfying reverse Hölder inequality.

Jacek Dziubanski, Jacek Zienkiewicz (1999)

Revista Matemática Iberoamericana

Let {Tt}t>0 be the semigroup of linear operators generated by a Schrödinger operator -A = Δ - V, where V is a nonnegative potential that belongs to a certain reverse Hölder class. We define a Hardy space HA1 by means of a maximal function associated with the semigroup {Tt}t>0. Atomic and Riesz transforms characterizations of HA1 are shown.

Hardy spaces associated with some Schrödinger operators

Jacek Dziubański, Jacek Zienkiewicz (1997)

Studia Mathematica

For a Schrödinger operator A = -Δ + V, where V is a nonnegative polynomial, we define a Hardy H A 1 space associated with A. An atomic characterization of H A 1 is shown.

Hardy type inequalities for two-parameter Vilenkin-Fourier coefficients

Péter Simon, Ferenc Weisz (1997)

Studia Mathematica

Our main result is a Hardy type inequality with respect to the two-parameter Vilenkin system (*) ( k = 1 j = 1 | f ̂ ( k , j ) | p ( k j ) p - 2 ) 1 / p C p f H * * p (1/2 < p≤2) where f belongs to the Hardy space H * * p ( G m × G s ) defined by means of a maximal function. This inequality is extended to p > 2 if the Vilenkin-Fourier coefficients of f form a monotone sequence. We show that the converse of (*) also holds for all p > 0 under the monotonicity assumption.

Hardy's theorem for the helgason Fourier transform on noncompact rank one symmetric spaces

S. Thangavelu (2002)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Let G be a semisimple Lie group with Iwasawa decomposition G = KAN. Let X = G/K be the associated symmetric space and assume that X is of rank one. Let M be the centraliser of A in K and consider an orthonormal basis Y δ , j : δ K ̂ , 1 j d δ of L²(K/M) consisting of K-finite functions of type δ on K/M. For a function f on X let f̃(λ,b), λ ∈ ℂ, be the Helgason Fourier transform. Let h t be the heat kernel associated to the Laplace-Beltrami operator and let Q δ ( i λ + ϱ ) be the Kostant polynomials. We establish the following version...
