In this paper we explicitly determine the Macdonald formula for spherical functions on any locally finite, regular and affine Bruhat-Tits building, by constructing the finite difference equations that must be satisfied and explaining how they arise, by only using the geometric properties of the building.
A linear map T from a Banach algebra A into another B preserves zero products if T(a)T(b) = 0 whenever a,b ∈ A are such that ab = 0. This paper is mainly concerned with the question of whether every continuous linear surjective map T: A → B that preserves zero products is a weighted homomorphism. We show that this is indeed the case for a large class of Banach algebras which includes group algebras. Our method involves continuous bilinear maps ϕ: A × A → X (for some Banach space X) with the property...
We show positivity of the Q-matrix of four kinds of graph products: direct product (Cartesian product), star product, comb product, and free product. During the discussion we give an alternative simple proof of the Markov product theorem on positive definite kernels.
On the domain S_a = {(x,e^b): x ∈ N, b ∈ ℝ, b > a} where N is a simply connected nilpotent Lie group, a certain N-left-invariant, second order, degenerate elliptic operator L is considered. N × {e^a} is the Poisson boundary for L-harmonic functions F, i.e. F is the Poisson integral F(xe^b) = ʃ_N f(xy)dμ^b_a(x), for an f in L^∞(N). The main theorem of the paper asserts that the maximal function M^a f(x) = sup{|ʃf(xy)dμ_a^b(y)| : b > a} is of weak type (1,1).
