Unbounded Hermitian operators and relative reproducing kernel Hilbert space

Palle Jorgensen (2010)

Open Mathematics

We study unbounded Hermitian operators with dense domain in Hilbert space. As is known, the obstruction for a Hermitian operator to be selfadjoint or to have selfadjoint extensions is measured by a pair of deficiency indices, and associated deficiency spaces; but in practical problems, the direct computation of these indices can be difficult. Instead, in this paper we identify additional structures that throw light on the problem. We will attack the problem of computing deficiency spaces for a single...

Unbounded Jacobi Matrices with Empty Absolutely Continuous Spectrum

Petru Cojuhari, Jan Janas (2008)

Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Mathematics

Sufficient conditions for the absence of absolutely continuous spectrum for unbounded Jacobi operators are given. A class of unbounded Jacobi operators with purely singular continuous spectrum is constructed as well.

Unbounded Laplacians on Graphs: Basic Spectral Properties and the Heat Equation

M. Keller, D. Lenz (2010)

Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena

We discuss Laplacians on graphs in a framework of regular Dirichlet forms. We focus on phenomena related to unboundedness of the Laplacians. This includes (failure of) essential selfadjointness, absence of essential spectrum and stochastic incompleteness.

Unbounded solutions of BVP for second order ODE with p -Laplacian on the half line

Yuji Liu, Patricia J. Y. Wong (2013)

Applications of Mathematics

By applying the Leggett-Williams fixed point theorem in a suitably constructed cone, we obtain the existence of at least three unbounded positive solutions for a boundary value problem on the half line. Our result improves and complements some of the work in the literature.

Unbounded well-bounded operators, strongly continuous semigroups and the Laplace transform

Ralph deLaubenfels (1992)

Studia Mathematica

Suppose A is a (possibly unbounded) linear operator on a Banach space. We show that the following are equivalent. (1) A is well-bounded on [0,∞). (2) -A generates a strongly continuous semigroup e - s A s 0 such that ( 1 / s 2 ) e - s A s > 0 is the Laplace transform of a Lipschitz continuous family of operators that vanishes at 0. (3) -A generates a strongly continuous differentiable semigroup e - s A s 0 and ∃ M < ∞ such that H n ( s ) ( k = 0 n ( s k A k ) / k ! ) e - s A M , ∀s > 0, n ∈ ℕ ∪ 0. (4) -A generates a strongly continuous holomorphic semigroup e - z A R e ( z ) > 0 that is O(|z|) in all...

Unconditional ideals of finite rank operators

Trond A. Abrahamsen, Asvald Lima, Vegard Lima (2008)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Let X be a Banach space. We give characterizations of when ( Y , X ) is a u -ideal in 𝒲 ( Y , X ) for every Banach space Y in terms of nets of finite rank operators approximating weakly compact operators. Similar characterizations are given for the cases when ( X , Y ) is a u -ideal in 𝒲 ( X , Y ) for every Banach space Y , when ( Y , X ) is a u -ideal in 𝒲 ( Y , X * * ) for every Banach space Y , and when ( Y , X ) is a u -ideal in 𝒦 ( Y , X * * ) for every Banach space Y .

Unconditionally p-null sequences and unconditionally p-compact operators

Ju Myung Kim (2014)

Studia Mathematica

We investigate sequences and operators via the unconditionally p-summable sequences. We characterize the unconditionally p-null sequences in terms of a certain tensor product and then prove that, for every 1 ≤ p < ∞, a subset of a Banach space is relatively unconditionally p-compact if and only if it is contained in the closed convex hull of an unconditionally p-null sequence.

Uncountably many solutions of a system of third order nonlinear differential equations

Min Liu (2011)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

In this paper, we aim to study the global solvability of the following system of third order nonlinear neutral delay differential equations d d t r i ( t ) d d t λ i ( t ) d d t x i ( t ) - f i ( t , x 1 ( t - σ i 1 ) , x 2 ( t - σ i 2 ) , x 3 ( t - σ i 3 ) ) + d d t r i ( t ) d d t g i ( t , x 1 ( p i 1 ( t ) ) , x 2 ( p i 2 ( t ) ) , x 3 ( p i 3 ( t ) ) ) + d d t h i ( t , x 1 ( q i 1 ( t ) ) , x 2 ( q i 2 ( t ) ) , x 3 ( q i 3 ( t ) ) ) = l i ( t , x 1 ( η i 1 ( t ) ) , x 2 ( η i 2 ( t ) ) , x 3 ( η i 3 ( t ) ) ) , t t 0 , i { 1 , 2 , 3 } in the following bounded closed and convex set Ω ( a , b ) = x ( t ) = ( x 1 ( t ) , x 2 ( t ) , x 3 ( t ) ) C ( [ t 0 , + ) , 3 ) : a ( t ) x i ( t ) b ( t ) , t t 0 , i { 1 , 2 , 3 } , where σ i j > 0 , r i , λ i , a , b C ( [ t 0 , + ) , + ) , f i , g i , h i , l i C ( [ t 0 , + ) × 3 , ) , p i j , q i j , η i j C ( [ t 0 , + ) , ) for i , j { 1 , 2 , 3 } . By applying the Krasnoselskii fixed point theorem, the Schauder fixed point theorem, the Sadovskii fixed point theorem and the Banach contraction principle, four existence results of uncountably many bounded positive solutions of the system are established.
