Optimal control of a frictionless contact problem with normal compliance

Arezki Touzaline (2018)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

We consider a mathematical model which describes a contact between an elastic body and a foundation. The contact is frictionless with normal compliance. The goal of this paper is to study an optimal control problem which consists of leading the stress tensor as close as possible to a given target, by acting with a control on the boundary of the body. We state an optimal control problem which admits at least one solution. Next, we establish an optimality condition corresponding to a regularization...

Ostrowski-Kantorovich theorem and S -order of convergence of Halley method in Banach spaces

Dong Chen (1993)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Ostrowski-Kantorovich theorem of Halley method for solving nonlinear operator equations in Banach spaces is presented. The complete expression of an upper bound for the method is given based on the initial information. Also some properties of S -order of convergence and sufficient asymptotic error bound will be discussed.

Path following methods for steady laminar Bingham flow in cylindrical pipes

Juan Carlos De Los Reyes, Sergio González (2009)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

This paper is devoted to the numerical solution of stationary laminar Bingham fluids by path-following methods. By using duality theory, a system that characterizes the solution of the original problem is derived. Since this system is ill-posed, a family of regularized problems is obtained and the convergence of the regularized solutions to the original one is proved. For the update of the regularization parameter, a path-following method is investigated. Based on the differentiability properties...

Periodic boundary value problem of a fourth order differential inclusion

Marko Švec (1997)

Archivum Mathematicum

The paper deals with the periodic boundary value problem (1) L 4 x ( t ) + a ( t ) x ( t ) F ( t , x ( t ) ) , t J = [ a , b ] , (2) L i x ( a ) = L i x ( b ) , i = 0 , 1 , 2 , 3 , where L 0 x ( t ) = a 0 x ( t ) , L i x ( t ) = a i ( t ) L i - 1 x ( t ) , i = 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , a 0 ( t ) = a 4 ( t ) = 1 , a i ( t ) , i = 1 , 2 , 3 and a ( t ) are continuous on J , a ( t ) 0 , a i ( t ) > 0 , i = 1 , 2 , a 1 ( t ) = a 3 ( t ) · F ( t , x ) : J × R {nonempty convex compact subsets of R }, R = ( - , ) . The existence of such periodic solution is proven via Ky Fan’s fixed point theorem.

Periodic problems and problems with discontinuities for nonlinear parabolic equations

Tiziana Cardinali, Nikolaos S. Papageorgiou (2000)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

In this paper we study nonlinear parabolic equations using the method of upper and lower solutions. Using truncation and penalization techniques and results from the theory of operators of monotone type, we prove the existence of a periodic solution between an upper and a lower solution. Then with some monotonicity conditions we prove the existence of extremal solutions in the order interval defined by an upper and a lower solution. Finally we consider problems with discontinuities and we show that...

Periodic solutions for nonlinear elliptic equations. Application to charged particle beam focusing systems

Mihai Bostan, Eric Sonnendrücker (2006)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

We study the existence of spatial periodic solutions for nonlinear elliptic equations - Δ u + g ( x , u ( x ) ) = 0 , x N where g is a continuous function, nondecreasing w.r.t. u . We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of periodic solutions. Some cases with nonincreasing functions g are investigated as well. As an application we analyze the mathematical model of electron beam focusing system and we prove the existence of positive periodic solutions for the envelope equation. We present also numerical simulations....
