On universality of countable and weak products of sigma hereditarily disconnected spaces

Taras Banakh, Robert Cauty (2001)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Suppose a metrizable separable space Y is sigma hereditarily disconnected, i.e., it is a countable union of hereditarily disconnected subspaces. We prove that the countable power X ω of any subspace X ⊂ Y is not universal for the class ₂ of absolute G δ σ -sets; moreover, if Y is an absolute F σ δ -set, then X ω contains no closed topological copy of the Nagata space = W(I,ℙ); if Y is an absolute G δ -set, then X ω contains no closed copy of the Smirnov space σ = W(I,0). On the other hand, the countable power X ω of...

Orbit spaces, Quillen's Theorem A and Minami's formula for compact Lie groups

Assaf Libman (2011)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Let G be a compact Lie group. We present a criterion for the orbit spaces of two G-spaces to be homotopy equivalent and use it to obtain a quick proof of Webb’s conjecture for compact Lie groups. We establish two Minami type formulae which present the p-localised spectrum Σ B G as an alternating sum of p-localised spectra Σ B H for subgroups H of G. The subgroups H are calculated from the collections of the non-trivial elementary abelian p-subgroups of G and the non-trivial p-radical subgroups of G. We...

Painlevé equations and complex reflections

Philip Boalch (2003)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

We will explain how some new algebraic solutions of the sixth Painlevé equation arise from complex reflection groups, thereby extending some results of Hitchin and Dubrovin-- Mazzocco for real reflection groups. The problem of finding explicit formulae for these solutions will be addressed elsewhere.

Parity sheaves, moment graphs and the p -smooth locus of Schubert varieties

Peter Fiebig, Geordie Williamson (2014)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

We show that the Braden-MacPherson algorithm computes the stalks of parity sheaves. As a consequence we deduce that the Braden-MacPherson algorithm may be used to calculate the characters of tilting modules for algebraic groups and show that the p -smooth locus of a (Kac-Moody) Schubert variety coincides with the rationally smooth locus, if the underlying Bruhat graph satisfies a GKM-condition.
