On a transmission problem in elasticity

Christodoulos Athanasiadis, Ioannis G. Stratis (1998)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

The transmission problem for the reduced Navier equation of classical elasticity, for an infinitely stratified scatterer, is studied. The existence and uniqueness of solutions is proved. Moreover, an integral representation of the solution is constructed, for both the near and the far field.

On asymptotics of solutions and eigenvalues of the boundary value problem with rapidly alternating boundary conditions for the system of elasticity

Olga A. Oleinik, Gregory Chechkin (1996)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

Boundary value problems for the system of linear elasticity with rapidly alternating boundary conditions are studied and asymptotic behavior of solutions is considered when a small parameter, which defines the oscillation of the boundary conditions, tends to zero. Estimates for the difference between such solutions and solutions of the limit problem are given.

Optimal design of an elastic beam on an elastic basis

Jan Chleboun (1986)

Aplikace matematiky

An elastic simply supported beam of given volume and of constant width and length, fixed on an elastic base, is considered. The design variable is taken to be the thickness of the beam; its derivatives of the first order are bounded both above and below. The load consists of concentrated forces and moments, the weight of the beam and of the so called continuous load. The cost functional is either the H 2 -norm of the deflection curve or the L 2 -norm of the normal stress in the extemr fibre of the beam. Existence...

Partial exact controllability and exponential stability in higher-dimensional linear thermoelasticity

Weijiu Liu (2010)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

The problem of partial exact boundary controllability and exponential stability for the higher-dimensional linear system of thermoelasticity is considered. By introducing a velocity feedback on part of the boundary of the thermoelastic body, which is clamped along the rest of its boundary, to increase the loss of energy, we prove that the energy in the system of thermoelasticity decays to zero exponentially. We also give a positive answer to a related open question raised by Alabau and Komornik...

Regularity and optimal control of quasicoupled and coupled heating processes

Jiří Jarušek (1996)

Applications of Mathematics

Sufficient conditions for the stresses in the threedimensional linearized coupled thermoelastic system including viscoelasticity to be continuous and bounded are derived and optimization of heating processes described by quasicoupled or partially linearized coupled thermoelastic systems with constraints on stresses is treated. Due to the consideration of heating regimes being “as nonregular as possible” and because of the well-known lack of results concerning the classical regularity of solutions...

Remarks on Carleman estimates and exact controllability of the Lamé system

Oleg Yu. Imanuvilov, Masahiro Yamamoto (2002)

Journées équations aux dérivées partielles

In this paper we established the Carleman estimate for the two dimensional Lamé system with the zero Dirichlet boundary conditions. Using this estimate we proved the exact controllability result for the Lamé system with with a control locally distributed over a subdomain which satisfies to a certain type of nontrapping conditions.
