A support theorem for Hilbert schemes of planar curves

Luca Migliorini, Vivek Shende (2013)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Consider a family of integral complex locally planar curves whose relative Hilbert scheme of points is smooth. The decomposition theorem of Beilinson, Bernstein, and Deligne asserts that the pushforward of the constant sheaf on the relative Hilbert scheme splits as a direct sum of shifted semisimple perverse sheaves. We will show that no summand is supported in positive codimension. It follows that the perverse filtration on the cohomology of the compactified Jacobian of an integral plane curve...

A Survey of Counterexamples to Hilbert's Fourteenth Problem

Freudenburg, Gene (2001)

Serdica Mathematical Journal

We survey counterexamples to Hilbert’s Fourteenth Problem, beginning with those of Nagata in the late 1950s, and including recent counterexamples in low dimension constructed with locally nilpotent derivations. Historical framework and pertinent references are provided. We also include 8 important open questions.

A theorem on generic intersections in an o-minimal structure

Krzysztof Jan Nowak (2014)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Consider a transitive definable action of a Lie group G on a definable manifold M. Given two (locally) definable subsets A and B of M, we prove that the dimension of the intersection σ(A) ∩ B is not greater than the expected one for a generic σ ∈ G.

A Torelli theorem for moduli spaces of principal bundles over a curve

Indranil Biswas, Norbert Hoffmann (2012)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Let X and X be compact Riemann surfaces of genus 3 , and let G and G be nonabelian reductive complex groups. If one component G d ( X ) of the coarse moduli space for semistable principal G –bundles over X is isomorphic to another component G d ( X ) , then X is isomorphic to X .
