Locally soluble-by-finite groups with small deviation for non-subnormal subgroups

Leonid A. Kurdachenko, Howard Smith (2007)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

A group G has subnormal deviation at most 1 if, for every descending chain H 0 > H 1 > of non-subnormal subgroups of G , for all but finitely many i there is no infinite descending chain of non-subnormal subgroups of G that contain H i + 1 and are contained in H i . This property 𝔓 , say, was investigated in a previous paper by the authors, where soluble groups with 𝔓 and locally nilpotent groups with 𝔓 were effectively classified. The present article affirms a conjecture from that article by showing that locally soluble-by-finite...

Loop characters

Kenneth Walter Johnson (2000)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

A survey of the basic results of loop characters is given on the lines of the treatment of the author and J.D.H. Smith for characters of quasigroups, including some recent deveploments. One of the successes of the theory has been its suggestive influence on the theory of association schemes, group representations and the theory of the group determinant, and selected results arising are described. A section is devoted to an explanation of how the tool of loop characters has not yet been as startlingly...

Loops and quasigroups: Aspects of current work and prospects for the future

Jonathan D. H. Smith (2000)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

This paper gives a brief survey of certain recently developing aspects of the study of loops and quasigroups, focussing on some of the areas that appear to exhibit the best prospects for subsequent research and for applications both inside and outside mathematics.

Los retículos de las clases de Schunck normales y de las clases derivadas.

Julio Lafuente López (1979)

Revista Matemática Hispanoamericana

All groups to be considered are finite. The main result of this paper is the following: the normal Schunck classes compose a complete and distributive lattice antiisomorphic to the lattice composed by the Derived classes (s. [5]). It begins with a first section of machinery which establishes that the Derived classes are precisely the classes of groups G such that every simple section of G appartains to a σ-closed class (s. 1.6) of simple groups; therefore the Derived classes are a natural generalization...
