On q -Runge pairs

Mihnea Colţoiu (2003)

Annali della Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa - Classe di Scienze

We show that the converse of the aproximation theorem of Andreotti and Grauert does not hold. More precisely we construct a 4 -complete open subset D 6 (which is an analytic complement in the unit ball) such that the restriction map H 3 ( 6 , ) H 3 ( D , ) has a dense image for every C o h ( 6 ) but the pair ( D , 6 ) is not a 4 -Runge pair.

On regular Stein neighborhoods of a union of two totally real planes in ℂ²

Tadej Starčič (2016)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

We find regular Stein neighborhoods of a union of totally real planes M = (A+iI)ℝ² and N = ℝ² in ℂ², provided that the entries of a real 2 × 2 matrix A are sufficiently small. A key step in our proof is a local construction of a suitable function ρ near the origin. The sublevel sets of ρ are strongly Levi pseudoconvex and admit strong deformation retraction to M ∪ N.

On roots of polynomials with power series coefficients

Rafał Pierzchała (2003)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

We give a deepened version of a lemma of Gabrielov and then use it to prove the following fact: if h ∈ 𝕂[[X]] (𝕂 = ℝ or ℂ) is a root of a non-zero polynomial with convergent power series coefficients, then h is convergent.

On roots of the automorphism group of a circular domain in n

Jan M. Myszewski (1991)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

We study the properties of the group Aut(D) of all biholomorphic transformations of a bounded circular domain D in n containing the origin. We characterize the set of all possible roots for the Lie algebra of Aut(D). There exists an n-element set P such that any root is of the form α or -α or α-β for suitable α,β ∈ P.

On second order Thom-Boardman singularities

László M. Fehér, Balázs Kőműves (2006)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We derive closed formulas for the Thom polynomials of two families of second order Thom-Boardman singularities Σ i , j . The formulas are given as linear combinations of Schur polynomials, and all coefficients are nonnegative.

On self-commutators of Toeplitz operators with rational symbols

Sherwin Kouchekian, James E. Thomson (2007)

Studia Mathematica

We prove that the self-commutator of a Toeplitz operator with unbounded analytic rational symbol has a dense domain in both the Bergman space and the Hardy space of the unit disc. This is a basic step towards establishing whether the self-commutator has a compact or trace-class extension.

On semialgebraic points of definable sets

Artur Piękosz (1998)

Banach Center Publications

We prove that the semialgebraic, algebraic, and algebraic nonsingular points of a definable set in o-minimal structure with analytic cell decomposition are definable. Moreover, the operation of taking semialgebraic points is idempotent and the degree of complexity of semialgebraic points is bounded.
