Rauzy fractals are compact sets with fractal boundary that can be associated with any unimodular Pisot irreducible substitution. These fractals can be defined as the Hausdorff limit of a sequence of compact sets, where each set is a renormalized projection of a finite union of faces of unit cubes. We exploit this combinatorial definition to prove the connectedness of the Rauzy fractal associated with any finite product of three-letter Arnoux–Rauzy substitutions.

We obtain new results regarding the precise average-case analysis of the main quantities that intervene in algorithms of a broad Euclidean type. We develop a general framework for the analysis of such algorithms, where the average-case complexity of an algorithm is related to the analytic behaviour in the complex plane of the set of elementary transformations determined by the algorithms. The methods rely on properties of transfer operators suitably adapted from dynamical systems theory and provide...

We consider expansions of real numbers in non-integer bases. These expansions are generated by β-shifts. We prove that some sets arising in metric number theory have the countable intersection property. This allows us to consider sets of reals that have common properties in a countable number of different (non-integer) bases. Some of the results are new even for integer bases.

This survey aims at giving a consistent presentation of numeration from a dynamical viewpoint: we focus on numeration systems, their associated compactification, and dynamical systems that can be naturally defined on them. The exposition is unified by the fibred numeration system concept. Many examples are discussed. Various numerations on rational integers, real or complex numbers are presented with special attention paid to -numeration and its generalisations, abstract numeration systems and...

We give an introduction to adelic mixing and its applications for mathematicians knowing about the mixing of the geodesic flow on hyperbolic surfaces. We focus on the example of the Hecke trees in the modular surface.

Given a rational function on of degree at least 2 with coefficients in a number field , we show that for each place of , there is a unique probability measure on the Berkovich space such that if is a sequence of points in whose -canonical heights tend to zero, then the ’s and their -conjugates are equidistributed with respect to .The proof uses a polynomial lift of to construct a two-variable Arakelov-Green’s function for each . The measure is obtained by taking the...

We construct a natural invariant measure concentrated on the set of square-free numbers, and invariant under the shift. We prove that the corresponding dynamical system is isomorphic to a translation on a compact, Abelian group. This implies that this system is not weakly mixing and has zero measure-theoretical entropy.

We prove a new type of universality theorem for the Riemann zeta-function and other -functions (which are universal in the sense of Voronin’s theorem). In contrast to previous universality theorems for the zeta-function or its various generalizations, here the approximating shifts are taken from the orbit of an ergodic transformation on the real line.

On utilise pour cela des propriétés de mélange de l’action du groupe des points adéliques sur l’espace . We study a generalized notion of a homogeneous skew-product extension of a probability-preserving system in which the homogeneous space fibres are allowed to vary over the ergodic decomposition of the base. The construction of such extensions rests on a simple notion of 'direct integral' for a 'measurable family' of homogeneous spaces, which has a number of precedents in older literature. The main contribution of the present paper is the systematic development of a formalism for handling such extensions,...
