A Reproducing Kernel and Toeplitz Operators in the Quantum Plane

Stephen Bruce Sontz (2013)

Communications in Mathematics

We define and analyze Toeplitz operators whose symbols are the elements of the complex quantum plane, a non-commutative, infinite dimensional algebra. In particular, the symbols do not come from an algebra of functions. The process of forming operators from non-commuting symbols can be considered as a second quantization. To do this we construct a reproducing kernel associated with the quantum plane. We also discuss the commutation relations of creation and annihilation operators which are defined...

A resolvent condition implying power boundedness

Béla Nagy, Jaroslav Zemánek (1999)

Studia Mathematica

The Ritt and Kreiss resolvent conditions are related to the behaviour of the powers and their various means. In particular, it is shown that the Ritt condition implies the power boundedness. This improves the Nevanlinna characterization of the sublinear decay of the differences of the consecutive powers in the Esterle-Katznelson-Tzafriri theorem, and actually characterizes the analytic Ritt condition by two geometric properties of the powers.

A result on best approximation in p -normed spaces

Abdul Latif (2001)

Archivum Mathematicum

We study best approximation in p -normed spaces via a general common fixed point principle. Our results unify and extend some known results of Carbone [ca:pt], Dotson [do:bs], Jungck and Sessa [ju:at], Singh [si:at] and many of others.

A result on segmenting Jungck–Mann iterates

Memudu Olaposi Olatinwo (2008)

Acta Universitatis Palackianae Olomucensis. Facultas Rerum Naturalium. Mathematica

In this paper, following the concepts in [5, 7], we shall establish a convergence result in a uniformly convex Banach space using the Jungck–Mann iteration process introduced by Singh et al [13] and a certain general contractive condition. The authors of [13] established various stability results for a pair of nonself-mappings for both Jungck and Jungck–Mann iteration processes. Our result is a generalization and extension of that of [7] and its corollaries. It is also an improvement on the result...

A Riccati equation arising in a boundary control problem for distributed parameters

Franco Flandoli (1982)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

A Riemann-Hilbert problem with a vanishing coefficient and applications to Toeplitz operators

A. Perälä, J. A. Virtanen, L. Wolf (2013)

Concrete Operators

We study the homogeneous Riemann-Hilbert problem with a vanishing scalar-valued continuous coefficient. We characterize non-existence of nontrivial solutions in the case where the coefficient has its values along several rays starting from the origin. As a consequence, some results on injectivity and existence of eigenvalues of Toeplitz operators in Hardy spaces are obtained.

A Riesz representation theory for completely regular Hausdorff spaces and its applications

Marian Nowak (2016)

Open Mathematics

Let X be a completely regular Hausdorff space, E and F be Banach spaces. Let Cb(X, E) be the space of all E-valued bounded, continuous functions on X, equipped with the strict topology β. We develop the Riemman-Stieltjes-type Integral representation theory of (β, || · ||F) -continuous operators T : Cb(X, E) → F with respect to the representing Borel operator measures. For X being a k-space, we characterize strongly bounded (β, || · ||F)-continuous operators T : Cb(X, E) → F. As an application, we...

A semigroup analogue of the Fonf-Lin-Wojtaszczyk ergodic characterization of reflexive Banach spaces with a basis

Delio Mugnolo (2004)

Studia Mathematica

In analogy to a recent result by V. Fonf, M. Lin, and P. Wojtaszczyk, we prove the following characterizations of a Banach space X with a basis. (i) X is finite-dimensional if and only if every bounded, uniformly continuous, mean ergodic semigroup on X is uniformly mean ergodic. (ii) X is reflexive if and only if every bounded strongly continuous semigroup is mean ergodic if and only if every bounded uniformly continuous semigroup on X is mean ergodic.
