Let denote a true dimension function, i.e., a dimension function such that for all . For a space , we denote the hyperspace consisting of all compact connected, non-empty subsets by . If is a countable infinite product of non-degenerate Peano continua, then the sequence is -absorbing in . As a consequence, there is a homeomorphism such that for all , , where denotes the pseudo boundary of the Hilbert cube . It follows that if is a countable infinite product of non-degenerate...
Right factorizations for a class of l.s.cṁappings with separable metrizable range are constructed. Besides in the selection and dimension theories, these l.s.cḟactorizations are also successful in solving the problem of factorizing a class of u.s.cṁappings.
The first author has recently proved that if f: X → Y is a k-dimensional map between compacta and Y is p-dimensional (0 ≤ k, p < ∞), then for each 0 ≤ i ≤ p + k, the set of maps g in the space such that the diagonal product is an (i+1)-to-1 map is a dense -subset of . In this paper, we prove that if f: X → Y is as above and (j = 1,..., k) are superdendrites, then the set of maps h in such that is (i+1)-to-1 is a dense -subset of for each 0 ≤ i ≤ p.
It is shown that for every at most k-to-one closed continuous map f from a non-empty n-dimensional metric space X, there exists a closed continuous map g from a zero-dimensional metric space onto X such that the composition f∘g is an at most (n+k)-to-one map. This implies that f is a composition of n+k-1 simple ( = at most two-to-one) closed continuous maps. Stronger conclusions are obtained for maps from Anderson-Choquet spaces and ones that satisfy W. Hurewicz's condition (α). The main tool is...
Fedorchuk's fully closed (continuous) maps and resolutions are applied in constructions of non-metrizable higher-dimensional analogues of Anderson, Choquet, and Cook's rigid continua. Certain theorems on dimension-lowering maps are proved for inductive dimensions and fully closed maps from spaces that need not be hereditarily normal, and some of the examples of continua we construct have non-coinciding dimensions.
The main goal of this paper is to construct, for every n,m ∈ ℕ, a hereditarily indecomposable continuum of dimension m which has exactly n autohomeomorphisms.
The paper is devoted to generalizations of the Cencelj-Dranishnikov theorems relating extension properties of nilpotent CW complexes to their homology groups. Here are the main results of the paper:
Theorem 0.1. Let L be a nilpotent CW complex and F the homotopy fiber of the inclusion i of L into its infinite symmetric product SP(L). If X is a metrizable space such that for all k ≥ 1, then and for all k ≥ Theorem 0.2. Let X be a metrizable space such that dim(X) < ∞ or X ∈ ANR. Suppose...
Let X be a compact metric space and let C(X) denote the space of subcontinua of X with the Hausdorff metric. It is proved that every two-dimensional continuum X contains, for every n ≥ 1, a one-dimensional subcontinuum with . This implies that X contains a compact one-dimensional subset T with dim C (T) = ∞.
