Lorentzian similarity manifolds

Yoshinobu Kamishima (2012)

Open Mathematics

An (m+2)-dimensional Lorentzian similarity manifold M is an affine flat manifold locally modeled on (G,ℝm+2), where G = ℝm+2 ⋊ (O(m+1, 1)×ℝ+). M is also a conformally flat Lorentzian manifold because G is isomorphic to the stabilizer of the Lorentzian group PO(m+2, 2) of the Lorentz model S m+1,1. We discuss the properties of compact Lorentzian similarity manifolds using developing maps and holonomy representations.

Malnormal subgroups and Frobenius groups: basics and examples

Pierre de la Harpe, Claude Weber (2014)

Confluentes Mathematici

Malnormal subgroups occur in various contexts. We review a large number of examples, and compare the general situation to that of finite Frobenius groups of permutations. In a companion paper [18], we analyse when peripheral subgroups of knot groups and 3 -manifold groups are malnormal.

Manifolds with a unique embedding

Zbigniew Jelonek (2009)

Colloquium Mathematicae

We show that if X, Y are smooth, compact k-dimensional submanifolds of ℝⁿ and 2k+2 ≤ n, then each diffeomorphism ϕ: X → Y can be extended to a diffeomorphism Φ: ℝⁿ → ℝⁿ which is tame (to be defined in this paper). Moreover, if X, Y are real analytic manifolds and the mapping ϕ is analytic, then we can choose Φ to be also analytic. We extend this result to some interesting categories of closed (not necessarily compact) subsets of ℝⁿ, namely, to the category of Nash submanifolds...
