The objective of this manuscript is to investigate the structure of linear maps on the space of real symmetric matrices ${𝒮}^n$ that leave invariant the closed convex cones of copositive and completely positive matrices (${\mathrm{COP}}_n$ and ${\mathrm{CP}}_n$). We consider tangent cones to Schubert subvarieties of the flag variety $G/B$, where $B$ is a Borel subgroup of a reductive complex algebraic group $G$ of type $E_6$, $E_7$ or $E_8$. We prove that if $w_1$ and $w_2$ form a good pair of involutions in the Weyl group $W$ of $G$ then the tangent cones $C_{w_1}$ and $C_{w_2}$ to the corresponding Schubert subvarieties of $G/B$ do not coincide as subschemes of the tangent space to $G/B$ at the neutral point.

A connected topological space $Z$ is unicoherent provided that if $Z=A\cup B$ where $A$ and $B$ are closed connected subsets of $Z$, then $A\cap B$ is connected. Let $Z$ be a unicoherent space, we say that $z\in Z$ makes a hole in $Z$ if $Z-\left\{z\right\}$ is not unicoherent. In this work the elements that make a hole to the cone and the suspension of a metric space are characterized. We apply this to give the classification of the elements of hyperspaces of some continua that make them hole.

The nonlinear dissipative wave equation $u_{tt}-\Delta u+{\left|u_t\right|}^{h-1}{u}_t=0$ in dimension $d\>1$ has strong solutions with the following structure. In $0\le t\<1$ the solutions have a focusing wave of singularity on the incoming light cone $\left|x\right|=1-t$. Let ${ℱ}_h^i(k,n)$ be the $i$-th ordered configuration space of all distinct points $H_1,...,H_h$ in the Grassmannian $Gr(k,n)$ of $k$-dimensional subspaces of ${ℂ}^n$, whose sum is a subspace of dimension $i$. We prove that ${ℱ}_h^i(k,n)$ is (when non empty) a complex submanifold of $Gr{(k,n)}^h$ of dimension $i(n-i)+hk(i-k)$ and its fundamental group is trivial if $i=min(n,hk)$, $hk\ne n$ and $n\&gt;2$ and equal to the braid group of the sphere $ℂ$ $P^1$ if $n=2$.
